I'm still speechless over Ed's passing and the right words are escaping me but someone mentioned that he had been hinting in the Shoutbox about his time being short - I had noticed it also - so I went back and reviewed recent activity and found the very last post he made there. Based on the time stamp it's the last post he made anywhere on RTH. The one thing I do not have right now is time - busy season is in full swing - but I will help financially as much as I can if it means we can give Ed a proper send-off. I often saw him referring to a "butte" and I assumed it was a place he liked to hike/walk to. Does anyone know more about said butte? Might be a good place to spread his ashes? idk.

Tommy Ed was still around on April 17. He had sent me a pm on the 9th after he read the post about Vince. We had a conversation going until the last pm he sent me on the 17th. He had asked me what Vince's favorite animal was and I told him it was the wolf. He placed an opal at the zoo in the landscape by the wolves in Vince's honor and sent me pictures of where it was and the wolves.

I remember the Wizard's words to the Tin Man from the Wizard of OZ - "A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others"

RTH has certainly lost a kind soul. I have to admit, I first found Ed’s posts a little odd and often indecipherable, but I came to realize his brain simply worked on a far different level than mine. HankRocks comment that Ed was a reader of Umberto Eco makes so much sense to me now. That was another author whose words I enjoyed even though I’m fairly certain I never quite got the whole meaning. Thinking back since I first read the news, I cannot think of a time when Ed posted anything that wasn’t kind or encouraging. His wordplay made me think and his optimism made me smile. Thank you, Ed, for showing how a few words (and a dancing Chewie) can make the world a better place. You will be missed.

I've been struggling since yesterday morning with what to say about Ed...not that I'm lacking for things to say...it's that there are SO many things! Quite a few things have been mentioned by others. I will never hear "Ladmo" without thinking of Ed. I will never see an image of a "broken heart" without thinking of Ed's Rockin' Hearts. I will never read or listen to someone knowledgeable about Philosophy and philosophers without thinking of Ed. I will never see a CHEWIE emoji without thinking of Ed. I will probably never see a picture of a Rhino without thinking of Ed (he posted pics of them for me)... Reading through the thread with what others had to say about Ed, there is no doubt his loving soul touched SO many...and probably SO many more than he ever realized. And I'm not sure if I thanked him enough for his contributions to the overall positive nature of this forum. I choose to believe Ed is in the hereafter, sitting around a campfire along with some of his favorite philosophers...and I have an idea...Ed is teaching them a thing or two about life, love, and philosophy. Two of Ed's last entries on the forum actually choked me up. I believe Ed knew...

Well, what is there to say that hasn't already been said by those that have come before me?
In all frankness, I never really had any personal interaction with Ed, and I was simply an observer for how he was on the Board. It's not that I *didn't* want to interact, but I'm really not that social a person. I'm totally happy being a wallflower and watching the daily goings on. But, Ed clearly thought about life in a far more cerebral way than I ever could. I tend to be more of a black and white sort of person, and Ed clearly saw life in Technicolor.
Sometimes his posts about life and philosophy were over my head, but his musings obviously were enjoyed by many here. I never saw him express any negative thought, and he always seemed to find the good in mostly (pun intended) everything I saw him write about. He loved the Phoenix area, and I was often impressed with the knowledge that he'd impart about local landmarks and geology. And, probably most importantly, his kindness was seemingly boundless.
He will clearly be missed.

Years ago I had to search really hard to find Ed's elusive birthday date and I already had a note written down to mention it. Today, June 14, would have been his birthday. Last year I posted it on the 13'th and he mentioned in the shout box that is was close enough. Happy Birthday Ed, hope they can cook your potato salad properly in heaven.
