Hello, as the title states from CO. Still recovering from work injuries and my lifelong fondness of rocks and minerals led me into the world of Lapidary! I also just recently taught myself how to facet. Not so much tumbling. I do have one though! (More cabbing/faceting for me) It's just been sitting for the last 4 months since my new cabbing machine broke. (Below) But I figured my 3/4yr old niece and nephew may enjoy tumbling when they come to visit they can see the progress each time sort of thing. And since they're too young to teach cabbing.
I have a new DP genie that broke within 10hrs of use... Still trying to figure things out with them... I used an OLD 3/4hp one and had no issues and decided to buy one myself but as most know they swapped to a 1/2hp motor. So the capacitor goes out, CSE sends me the wrong Capacitor replacement. I ask for the correct one to be sent, they say okay and a few days later call me back and tell me to talk to DP. I send them picks of the 2 capacitors I have and it neither match the replacement they have online... I'm wondering if I got one with the wrong Capacitor from the factory... And that's where I am at atm... And some old equipment that needs work, mostly a poor purchase of a ""12" slab saw" put in quotes because it's really a 10" model with a 12" blade shoved onto it... Idk if it's the hobby or my area or just my darn luck that a lot of people aren't super honest with equipment?... The saw shaft I think is bent or the bearings are off. Not sure, not a mechanic. But when turned on the blade moves left to right about 5mm. The guy I bought it from at a show told me "to just try it"... From what I know I'm pretty sure that much deflecting would just break out the slab? Or once in the rock would the blade straighten? Either way I didn't use it in fears of messing it up even more before I figured out what's actually wrong...
I also grabbed a refurbished star diamond super cab 8. Things so damn heavy and don't have my workshop set up so it's sitting... It just needs the motor attached but I want a dedicated stop for it first because moving it, really isn't an option...
Heck I was looking at rough, Shannon's Minerals popped up. I looked into them since they were close for delivery charges on mass rough. So looking at the website I noticed they had some cool stuff I've never seen or heard of one being "lepidolite". On Shannon's website they had a few pics of the rough and one finished set of cabs stated " made with our rough" (something along those lines) well I found the same cabs being sold on a popular rock/gem/mineral site. I messaged the seller and complimented them on the cabs and asked them how their buying experience was with Shannon's. They replied they have never heard of or done business with them! I told them they should get in contact with them because if that's the case they are stealing your images. A few days later the pics were gone but they left the description. I tried to get in contact with the cab maker to verify the images were used without permission but never heard back... I sent them a "you're welcome" message and told them to kick rocks for the lack of reply after helping them out... I later found Shannon's has a pending case with PP and can't use them for purchases either.
Maybe it's just my bad luck, as most people I've met in this hobby are very helpful and friendly
So still looking for a good, reliable rough source!
Sorry my intro turned into a rant-y novel...
