Tommy rockjunquie if you need to move this away from public consumption I understand and it's a heads up. Everyone else, try to behave, we should all get to see this and comment as respectfully as possible. The president visited AZ yesterday and designated another million acres as a "monument", making it off limits for use for everyone. Comments?

Everyone- Keep party politics out of it. Let's just talk about the Feds, in general, and these so called "land grabs".
Do you have a link, Lee?

I live in the East, so I am not quite as familiar with "monuments"- though we have them, for sure.
I am disappointed by the AP. It really didn't need to sling mud and make it a party issue.
I am torn. I am very sympathetic to the Native Americans and the treaties that have been ignored and broken.
"Biden said the new designation would see the federal government live up to its treaty obligations with Native American tribes after many were forced in decades past from their ancestral homes around the Grand Canyon as officials developed the site of the national park."
But then, I'm all for current National Security and uranium rights, as well. I think a happy medium could have been struck. I would like to know more actually.

No hunting, no mining (especially the uranium deposits there), no rockhounding, no nothing. Wait until the wildfires start burning everything down up there because the forests aren't being thinned to control that very real possibility.

So, another million acres stolen.
I wonder how many times the Injuns said that.

I am curious about those old treaties and if they will be allowed to use the land themselves- and for what. I don't have the time atm to research it. The article could have been written better.

Well, dang. Shoulda known. Included in the monument is privately owned graze land adjacent to formerly BLM land leased for graze, and now effectively landlocked into the middle of the monument with no prior notification to the ranchers.

OMG! Now that is messed up. Yeah, like that wasn't important to mention.

rockjunquie all articles are pretty low on detail, only reason I even knew about it is I live here and had an airport run at work yesterday, so I had the news radio on to follow traffic.

Since this decision was totally political I'm afraid I can't comment except to say that Russia controls 95% of all uranium deposits internationally and the U.S. has 5%. Our government buys a billion dollars'-worth of uranium from Russia annually.

In Texas lack of public lands is the biggest impediment to outdoor recreation, whether its hunting, fishing, rock hounding, or 4-wheeling. Many activities I had free access to in other states require I pay a land owner for access in Texas. We have the opposite problem here.

I haven't looked up the Havasupai, Hualapai or Kaibab tribes yet. The Navajo Nation is the largest reservation up there.
