I do not know how to wire wrap, but many of my customers do. I just wonder if I can get a comment or two about making cabs like this for folks who do wire wrap. In my mind, I can see how it might offer a little something special to the outcome of the wrapping. As wire wrappers, would you find this interesting and usable? This particular Mexican Lace agate leaves crystals around the void. Not all minerals will offer this to me, but thought about making some from other minerals and just cut out some odd shaped voids. Any way....., just curious if any of you experienced wrappers find this interesting? Thanks

The natural voids with druzy actually accent many wraps. I imagine making voids would be ok but they wouldn't have the shimmer that druzy makes. That cab would be awesome wrapped.

Sure! If you check out my '2 cab' thread, you'll see an Ocho I cabbed and used, with an open vug with crystals in it. Silverhawk, who sells cabs for up to $100 has had a couple of cabs as well with open 'voids'. But then again, I like things that are a bit different!

I'm a novice wrapper, and I'd tackle that one.... eventually maybe LOL.... the only thing that scares me initially is the location of the "window". I'd be hesitant to wrap it without a bit more experience under my belt so I could fully show it off.

Sure! If you check out my '2 cab' thread, you'll see an Ocho I cabbed and used, with an open vug with crystals in it. Most excellent work, and I like the Ocho very much! Sure do wish I knew how to wrap ! If I were to wrap this, I had a thought of actually running some of the wire through the "vug" ( I just learned a new word!) so as to add a little different look to the entire wrap... Anyone else see that possibility.. ? Maybe what I need to promote the idea is to ask one of you to consider wrapping a stone like this and incorporating the vug with some wire running through it so I can post it on my site. Maybe that would help get the idea across to some of my customers? I don't have a have specific design in mind, except to some how actually wrap some wire through the vug and around the outer edge of the cab a few times? Maybe it can only be run through one time and wrapped around like that, not sure? Maybe someone would like to tackle one or two in exchange for a real nice direct link from the final finished wrap back to your site from mine? Might get some work sent your way as a result.. If that does not appeal, then happy to pay for someone to tackle the idea on one or two similar stones. . Anyone

Actually, I'd be interested in wrapping one or two for a link! Rock people like to show off the rock, more than anything, and try to cover as little of the rock as possible. I never thought to wrap through it, but I'd be willing to give it a go and I'd be curious to see how it looked too! What side of the vug did you see the wire wrapped ariound? The thinner side? Any?

I don't wrap (yet), but I appreciate beauty. If a void, vug, or "imperfection" is pretty, then IMO it would be a shame NOT to use it in artwork such as wrapping.

Dee Excellent Dee ! As far as preference to what side to take the wire around, I leave it entirely up to you. IMO I can see several choices, but not knowing what is involved will leave it up to you. No stress, no hurry....., most important to just have some fun with it. If they turn out, great.....If not, oh well... Tell ya what.. Give me a couple days to make a few up. There is every possibility that you may break one while attempting to wrap to the narrow edge. If you decide on that. Any way. Will post a few asap. I have some more of this Mexican Lace agate with some vugs, and also some really nice Fossilized Coral that offer the same. Thanks for accepting the link back offer Lee. You will not be disappointed! It would not surprise me at all if you get a bite or two back from my site. Ok then Lee, sounds excellent. Talk to you very soon.

Those are stunning. I think they would make great wraps. As an avid wrapper cabs that are different are always fun.

Dang! I'd call those laces Dryheads too if I were asked. That dark matrix coupled with the color scheme spells Dryhead in my book.....Mel

Mel, I'm sure glad you saw it too...or at least read my comment. Tao hasn't said a word about it...I guess he doesn't quite know?!? I could swear it's a dryhead. Steve

These are so pretty-I love the way the crystal vugs look. I would wrap them as simply as possible to draw attention to the crystals. I had some this weekend that I destroyed that I was trying to cut into hear shapes-both cracked. I was so sad!

Yes, I did see the comment about the Dryhead, I am just not familiar with it.. I was told this was a Mexican Lace and that is how I have been labeling all of it in store. I will do a search for Dryhead and compare unless someone has a pic ?

Tao, in thinking more, I don't think a link would be such a great idea, since the people that would look are wrappers, and that's what I have on my site! I'd still be willing to do the first stone of the pic you have, since I said I would, but without the link! If anyone else offers, take them up on it before me!

Ok Dee, No problem at all. I will send off the one, and your welcome to keep it in exchange for your work and a picture in return of the finished wrap. I won't link back, but will use the pic only as an example on my site. PM me your address and will get it in the mail for you. Thanks again Dee, and I completely understand.
