My favorite is no longer there but every time I passed by him on a trip to NH, I passed him in excitment because every trip made to NH was full of fun. Skiing, Camping, exploring all the sites. I have many pics of this old man but with the old camras so I found a beautiful pic with a beautiful sentiment written of him on the web. I wasn't sure if I had the right to copy and paste, so here is the link. discountedcondominiumrentals.com/old_man_of_the_mountain.htm

I've used him for a while now in my Science lessons at work. During the weathering and erosion section the kids learn about how it all works. Thanks for posting that poem. Condor

your welcome, Condor. I'm in MA but have known him since a kid as did many, many other people. I think every person driving that bit of highway looked up at him with the passengers watching til he was no longer in sight and now passing that spot and thinking of him.

Ignore the wacko with the UZI. I guess the San Francisco Peaks aren't exactly a range but I wake up to them every morning and give thanks.

Good Posts and especially like the old man in the mountain! I like seeing shapes in rocks... like the clouds. On Camelback Mountain there is a shape of the 'praying monk' This is pretty good image (I need to take a pic of my own!) The thing is that you can see this image from 30 miles away. The story I grew up with was that the a monk and the camel were traveling. It started snowing or storming real bad. The camel got weighed down and the monk knelt to pray. Petrified for thousands & thousands of years.

Edmost and sitandwrap, You both brought memories. I lived near CamelBack before phoenix grew up. Loved the superstiscion(spelled wrong)mountain. Sitandwrap, out side of 2years in arizona as a kid. I was born and raised in Ma. That old Man in the Mountain was always my fav. We camped a lot up around the kangamangus highway and up to Mt. Washington then through Nova Scoti. Thanks for the wonderful memories. Silverlass All the pixs are just beautiful.

My favorites have to be the ranges I grew up among in southwestern Montana; The Absarokas or Absorkees, (the mountains in the background-you'll find their name spelled all kinds of crazy ways) The Bridgers (foreground) the Gallatins (background left) and the Madison Range (background right) and another view of the Bridgers;

Folks, all your pictures are to die for. Saskrock, three years ago we drove from Texas out to the Banff/Jasper area for two weeks. That area is just incredibly beautiful. I'm sure you must know Johnson Canyon. I would love to see it in the winter when it freezes over. Rallyrocks, what can I say? I wish I was there. Instead your photos will have to do for now. If you guys have more, I'd really enjoy seeing them.

the question here becomes: Who's the wacko without the gun?

The answer: It's not the gun that makes the wacko!
