...also known as Ruby in Fuschite. Picked up a couple pieces of rough in Q and have really enjoyed working with this gem. These are all freeforms as I try to use as much of this stone with as little waste as possible. So here they are, the whole group. Individual shots And my personal fav Lastly, just a pic of my cabbing set up inside the rig (sometimes I work outside on a picnic table, but it's too hot). Bill was working on the oval cab for me and I caught him taking a break watching TV, LOL. Thanks for looking. Jo

Those are very cool. I have some of that somewhere. Heard it was difficult to work up and polish but your cabs look great. Do you have any hints on how to best cut and polish it?.....Mel

It is. It's pretty soft and can break apart especially around the rubies. So, It was okay slabbing, went real easy, but when cutting out your preform, you can have a shape in mind to cut and about 70 percent of the time the shape will change because something broke off. I stabilized the preforms with super glue all over and let it soak in before cabbing. Also, you might be able to skip the coarsest wheel. My 100 lap is pretty worn so I used it but just went light on it for shaping. Used 14k diamond on felt and 50k diamond on leather for polish. Was gonna use Zam next if I didn't get a shine.

Bill, we're in NJ just outside of Philly. We'll be here til the end of the month. Spending some time with the kids and taking care of some business. First week of August, we head south to NC.
