So, I took Kris (Hand-2-Mouth) and Bobby (Bobby1) up on the challenge of doing my Lemon Yellow (Hand-2-Mouth) Davis Creek obsidian in a catseye cut. I got three cabs done this weekend and one more lemon yellow that is preformed but not finished yet! Here's the first cab.... the Lemon Yellow Catseye: Here is the extremely high dome: As you know, most of the time I do a relatively flat face to show full sheen. This Catseye was a challenge that I happily took on. I think I did good but to show you guys that I'm not perfect at this and am still learning this cut, I want to show you the back-lit picture as well. As you can see I messed up a tiny bit getting my fibers perpendicular to the long axis of my tear drop shape. Lucky for me it didn't mess up my Catseye very much. I'm guessing (and Kris and Bobby can tell me if I'm wrong....) that this is the reason my catseye is a bit wider and a tiny bit crooked than what would normally be displayed in a perfect catseye. Next is a gorgeous purple that I got from Frank. I should have done this one in a Catseye too as the fibers are spot on perfect: And here is a blue...... I don't remember who this came from? And lastly group shots, first is outdoor and second is indoor: I can't wait to get my 2nd Lemon Yellow done! It's such a rich exotic color, LOVING IT!!! THANKS KRIS!!!!

Liquid shine. Unbelievable what you do with those! That lemon is stunning. Hell, they all are.
I think I'm going to have to start bugging the shop stewards to install a 50,000 diamond pad or wheel.

All of these are gorgeous! You nailed the cat's eye effect perfectly. A few questions; when I saw the slab of "yellow" obsidian, it looked to me like it was just a section of rainbow obsidian, is this right? And, the one you call purple obsidian looks like Velvet obsidian, just the type on the magenta color. They are all gorgeous nonetheless, good job!

The Yellow is from Davis Creek and your guess is as good as mine. You would need to ask Kris??? As far as the purple..... I'll pm Frank to find out where it's from. I didn't think I remember it being from Mexico but I've had it for quite some time and my memory is not good unless I write on the slabs??? I'll pm him tonight and find out! I've worked a lot of Velvet but not in mostly single colors. Thanks everyone for your great and supporting comments

The magenta Velvet Obsidian is pretty rare. The reason I ask is the the green lines it has as well as the purple. Electric purple obsidian is like the blue one you show, except it's purple.

"SWEET AUNT BETTY WITH A MAPLE ROLLING PIN!!!" Like Lloyd said, I'm leaving the ob cabbing to you, Krystee! For those who wonder how those colors come out so intense ... Well, it is the worlds brightest sheen, bar none. That's why almost all of it goes to the Asian Collector market. Additionally, I've been told that, like my Hero, Steve Jobs, I just slab different-ly. I've cut opal for over 30 years, and just slab it like I'm trimming for fire. I ignore the stripes and don't look for pattern, like you do with agate or jasper. For me, it's all about freeing the sheen! The cabbing, however, is all Krystee! Bobby1 is my ob cabbing guru, but Krystee is just the ultimate perfectionist ... Truly a High Priestess of the Goddess of Sheen! So's ya knows, that lemon yellow/chartreuse is uber rare, but when we get it, we'll put it in with the AAA!!!+++ nee par Ultra SFRB Slab selections ... We just like everyone to get a little of the best! Oh, and you're welcome to PM me if you'd like to get on the list for that color. Thanks for the great work! Jumping for joy, Krystee! ;D Kris & Al H-2-M Mining
