A couple of members mentioned Mad magazine. Never heard of it. Well, actually most of the English themes I wrote were based on "Humor in a Jugular Vein." One of my teachers came close to having a rubber stamp made "Dave, PLEASE stop writing themes calculated to drive me mad!"I bought the first issue to come out from the Bluebird Cafe just north of the Texas State Capitol building. My favorite cartoonist quickly became Wally Wood. Issue #1 had his Blobs:

I grew up with MAD too but maybe liked Cracked ( a copycat) even better. Cracked still has a good website but no longer publishes a paper mag. I used to really love the MAD books in paperback novel form. They usually contained full length parodies/spoofs of movies, comics and such. I still remember one about Flash Gorden that was a hoot. Don't think kids now days are astute enough to understand what a parody is, nor do most of them read much at all but all us kids back in the olden days loved that stuff.....Mel
PS: Maybe some of you other oldsters remember. Was it MAD or cracked that started the four line Little Willie Poem craze back when we were in college in the 60's?. Gross little poems but also very funny if you have a black sense of humor. Couple examples I remember t refresh your memories:
Into the well little Willie Pushed his little sister Lily Mother couldn't find her daughter Now we sterilize our water
Willie found some dynamite Couldn't understand it quite Providence works in the oddest ways It rained Willie seven days
Willie found his fathers gun Blasted grandpa just for fun Mother proclaimed "Oh my word" Children should be seen, not heard

Little Willy with a roar, nailed the baby to the door Cried Mother in accents faint, Oh Willy, do mind the paint!
Little Willie asked what's that? Looks like strawberry jam? Hush child, 'tis poor Papa, run over by a tram.
