I[m sitting here listening to tornado sirens going off with...looking kinda rough...will post back in a minute Ok. So jamesp gave me this little bitty orange handled ball peen hammer a couple of months ago. Nice and innocent of him. I've looked and looked but I see no warning or instruction label on this hammer. No label that says "Do Not Smash Your Finger!!!"....nothing. I think this was a setup. I've already got several carloads of scallywags outside the door wanting to know who the manufacturer is. Seems I remember a little of the red stuff on James' fingers when we were at the gravel bar so we might could do a class action deal... Here's the result of a deadly tool... IMG_9720a (Custom) by Intheswamp, on Flickr But, here is my question... When busting up the cobbles do you leave some of the hide on the pieces? IMG_9726a (Custom) by Intheswamp, on Flickr

The little hammer is the most likely to do such. So sorry for you Ed. That had to hurt. How did you miss by 4 inches ? LOL, you need +/- 1/8 inch accuracy. That hurts from here. Glad your blood is red. When coral hunting: James is about 2 hours down the river with not a single soul or access to be seen. James has to use big hammers too. James breaks up very sharp materials with sledge hammers. James takes no chances. Please be careful with that tiny hammer. Did I say that had to hurt ?

I put carpet over that coral. Those heads are like 50 pound chunks of solid glass. my wife was 30 feet away and a fragment hit her and pulsed blood. Has happened to me on three occasions.
Fingers are hard to protect. And smaller rocks present the most danger to them.
Get well Ed.

Wow...rough weather. Daughter without power down in Covington County. STRONG wind, lots of lightning, heavy rain...still going on. Seems like one storm after another.

I got a bandaid on it now...didn't have one of the granddaughters' Cinderella ones, but I think this old brown one will work. jamesp, as I was holding the rock I was distracted for a split second when I heard a far away asteroid explode upon impact on a desolate and unknown planet in an equally unknown galaxy...the tiny ball peen hammer impacted my finger in much the same manner. I actually was holding the rock with a doubled piece of inner tube...seems to work pretty good (except for GPS coordinate misreadings). So, going back to my question...I guess it's ok to leave some of the frosted outside on the pieces isn't it?

I know a few folks that could wear that shield and that I would be the one benefiting from it. Strangely...it didn't hurt too much. Tomorrow when I'm working will be when i really feel it.

The third day. Manifestation of maximum soreness LOL, dang Ed. Iodine should reduce the pain A fragment of that coral chipped off and hit my other hand before I learned better procedures. Guessing there was a half pint of blood. It was pulsing in sprays, had to be an artery. Just a little 1 inch skinny splinter. But it did not hurt like that hammer strike will in a couple of three days. Post photos of it's healing process. Sure you didn't fracture the bone ?

The guys that knapp spearpoints have shown me chips of coral that they skinned deer with. And did a lot of the butchering. I have great fear of busting that stuff when using a big hammer on a big chunk. It WILL cut you.

That heavy squall line is just going just south of here thankfully. I see it. The one like that about 3 weeks ago was wicked. Odd to have such violent storms this time of year. Must be the fourth one in 3 months. Someone is restless up there.

The nail job....oh oh oh oh. and....oh. NASTY!!!!
The weather was pretty intense. My wife told me that traffic was at a standstill in front of the house...backed up. We live 7 miles out of town on a state highway. Got home and 1/4 mile from the house (in front of my mother's old house) there was big old pine tree cut up on both sides of the road. I hope they don't send us a bill.<sigh>
The wife and I gave the granddaughters a 4x4 wooden swing set for Christmas...simple A-frame about 14' long. It is AWOL...not to be seen tonight. They are loading up and heading this way due to power outage *and* the water tank for the deepwell being blown over....I'm hoping their roof is ok...we'll know more in the morning and the swing set will be out in the hayfield somewhere.

I never would've busted those cobbles up if I hadn't seen the nice tumbles you got from yours. So see, it *is* your fault.<grin> Yeah, I just miscued on that blow...knew as soon as I did it that it was a good'un so of course I just kept on banging away. I would have busted more than I did but the rains started coming in prelude to the storms coming. Wait a minute....you use the heirloom dish towel that's been in your wife's family for six generations for packing material *and* you cut her with a piece of razor sharp rock....and you're still breathing???!!!!! After busting those cobbles I've got a whole new outlook on them gravel bars.

Intheswamp maybe jamesp sent you an old mafia ball peen hammer. I heard those were pretty good at busting fingers, thumbs, and knee caps.

osu, so what your saying is that James gave me a possessed ball peen hammer? That explains why one of my knees started hurting later last night....
