Do you like the looks of this yes or no. If it's a no don't hesitate to tell me - I can take it. This is a first cab from a material that we found out in the desert on our way to Utah. We pulled off the freeway and down a long dirt road towards some hills just looking for a spot to rest and eat lunch and let the dog run around. Of course that was soon followed by rockhounding when we noticed this brecciated rhyolite type material laying around as float. We picked up several fist size pieces just as a sample to see if it was something that would be lapidary grade and it is. Holds together very well - the agate in between is somewhat pitted but seems to adds character. Overall it takes a great shine. I guess the true test will be if it sells or not and I don't see us making a special trip to get more but it's interesting and fun finding something new.

It looks good to me. Great pattern with subtle colors.

Yes and no. I am female so I can say that lol. I do find it interesting. I can visualize it in a a bracelet or cuff. For me I think it is the shape of the cab. I would like to see it cabbed different. More of a chunky, squarish design. I don't know if that makes sense. But yes I would pick up so more of it. How would it tumble?

I really like it, but I am a big fan of breccia and earth colors so this is right up my alley.

Send it to me so I can safely dispose of it. It will sell and it looks GREAT!. Cliff Send that tiny Shep along with the cab, I miss my 185 # big girl who thought she was still a puppy and crawl up on me no matter where. Especially when it thundered. Also miss Bria's head sticking out the blazer window and her head in the Burger King sack.. hehehe

I like brecciated stuff. Not really my colors, but still like it.

I like it, especially the varied large shapes. I was wondering if those shapes might lend themselves to cutting that would emphasize them. So I grabbed your first image and spent a few minutes doing some simple photo-shopping. After first cutting a basic shape the bigger shapes could be emphasized by nibbling away at selected areas of the edges with burs, wheels and files. I think it gives an interesting impression of both the whole and the "parts". It would be more work of course...

It's not for me, but so far some have expressed an attraction. Go for it! Lynn

I think it looks like chipboard rhyoite, too. I generally like brecciated stuff, but I'm not crazy about this or the chipboard so much. I think it's the colors- or lack there of.

I do like it for what you have made use of it for. The chip-board look interests me. The colors are good for what it is. Now the bad news...being a guy who tumbles most of his rocks and makes very few cabs in comparison, I struggle a little with any kind of flaws. But, I do like the cab with the very rough edges. It fits the material very well in my eyes.

I really like it as well. Love the brecciated earth tones.

Here's my 2 cents worth.... As a stand alone cab it is pretty blah....no colors. But, it's also a stone that would not take attention away from the right setting or jewelry piece. I've seen many blah looking cabs in beautiful wire wraps or with other, more colorful stones around them and, because of their unique pattern or earth tones, they work. I don't think I'd make 100's of them just yet, but don't throw the rock in the yard either. Craig

We have a bloke at the club calls them SBRs, small brown rocks. It doesn't do much for me personally but I have seen club members cut SBRs and make stunning pieces from them. Personal choice, we're all different.

It does look like chipboard rhyolite. The gem club in Quartzsite gets some of that material near Brenda and I got a few pieces a few years ago. It's interesting material but not flashy like a lot of the cabs out there right now but as some have said they like it so who knows if it will sell or not. I think because you cabbed it, that it will sell because you do such a great job on all your cabs. I'm not a fan of this cab but it has its charms.

I got some similar stuff on the WA side of the Columbia Gorge, couldn't even get interest in a field trip out there to get more.

I like it. Not super flashy, but a whole bunch of them in a row on a link bracelet would be perfect. I also like that the pattern is small enough scale to work well with all sizes of cabs.
