What is your personal Monthly Butter Consumption ? And more importantly, how do you use your butter ?

There's no Zero. I don't consume butter. We use Smart Balance. I couldn't even guess how much. We cook family meals. All told, as a family of 5 we use about a big tub every 2 weeks, I think. But, I'm sure that was much more serious of an answer than you were looking for.

We switched away from all the Butter substitutes and went back to Butter about a year ago. The current view suggests that Butter is healthier for you than the substitutes. Of course that view will change in another 15 years and tell us how bad Butter is. To me this is like the bad rap that eggs got. When they went back and did further study they said that eggs aren't that bad and the earlier research neglected to look at lifestyle and what else was being consumed in the test subjects diet.
I love cooking with it as it lowers the cooking temperature, great for eggs and omelettes and sauteing some veggies. And my wife's and daughter's cookies would not be quite as good without the required Butter.
Everything in moderation!! (except maybe beer?)

Wow. it never occurred to me that there should be a Zero answer. You must not be eating any Pancakes or Corn Bread then . . . Ya just havta have butter on PANCAKES (but no syrup) and Cornbread, mmmmm. Jalapeno jelly is also good on cornbread. Used to put it on corn-on-the-cob, but no more. I don't even salt it anymore, just eat it unadorned after cooking a few minutes in the microwave. We switched away from all the Butter substitutes and went back to Butter about a year ago. The current view suggests that Butter is healthier for you than the substitutes. Of course that view will change in another 15 years and tell us how bad Butter is. And my wife's and daughter's cookies would not be quite as good without the required Butter. Everything in moderation!! (except maybe beer?) I don't sauté in it (use olive oil spray or just olive oil for that), or fry with it. What I mostly use it for is baking. Cannot make a real good banana bread without butter. Then, of course, you have to spread a little butter on the banana bread, lol. But moderation is definitely the key. We also used to do the butter substitutes, than heard that real butter (made from cow's milk) is actually better for you. I seem to recall hearing that the fake butter has a molecular structure just slightly different than plastic, yuk! That can't be good for you. Can't much believe research on the subject, as the study will almost certainly show whatever the people financing those studies want it to show.
I buy it in a four pack of one lb sticks at Costco, maybe two or three times a year. So, let me do the math..... So .6667 lbs to 1 lb per month.

French or sourdough bread and butter is one of my favorite treats. At my wife's suggestion, I changed away from all the fake butter things too but do try to moderate my use. All the substitutes tasted like sheit anyway. She switched me off diet soda too and now I'm down to maybe one soda a day. Find as I get older, I really have had to eliminate a lot of stuff from my diet or at least limit use of some things. Old innards don't work as well as they used to.....Mel

Wow. it never occurred to me that there should be a Zero answer. You must not be eating any Pancakes or Corn Bread then . . . Zero... mainly Pancakes are eggs flour and milk where's the butter? Might fry in butter once or twice a year. When I cook a cake (birthdays) then I tend to use butter. Half a block a month would be overcooking the stats.

Hard to gauge. I chose the 1 stick answer. I cook with butter, and go through about a pound (4 sticks a month) for a family of 3. But then there is also ghee. But it's much less and usually just as a spread. I make my ghee from the raw cows milk that I buy. To get around the ridiculous federal laws about buying/selling raw milk, I participate in a herd agreement. I own a partial share of a herd of grass fed dairy cows. Just enough to get a gallon of fresh cream line milk each week and all the cream that I care to turn into ghee by way of butter. No pictures of the homemade butter though. But it is way more yellow than the store bought butter that I buy.

B careful with raw milk. Lots of disease available there plus antibiotic alergy. Cows can often have brucellosis, there is a test called a Bangs test that all cows have to.pass plus all milk is tested. If a cow has it and a pregnant woman drinks the milk she will abort. If you are allergic to a antibiotic and a farmer gives it to the cow it will come thru the milk. All milk that goes thru a treatment is tested. I heavily promote you do not drink raw milk. Example, you have raw milk in the fridge, your young son brings his friend over and they get milk and cookies, his friend is highly allergic to penicillin. He goes into a severe allergic reaction! Some kids die of allergic reactions! Maybe a frind of yours comes to visit and brings her pregnant sister, you serve milk to her from a brucellosis cow!!!
I have a B.S in Animal Science and almost finished Vet college. The USDA is a got agency that is all about protecting us from health issues such as above. Milk goes thru a lot of testing at a lot of intervals. I have seen many a 8000 gallon truckload of milk dumped because of a health issue. Trust me farmers are human and make mistakes, the regulations from USDA count!!! Please b careful. I grew up with 2 family milk cows, we drank a lot of raw milk and never knew what we were risking!

Good Points.. I grew up drinking raw milk also long before it became a fad to own percentages of cows. Nothing like the cream on top of cooled, whole fresh milk. But now..No raw milk for me either. Science degrees too.

I probably have the equivalent of a cube year. Butter disagrees with me.
I use butter in baking; no substitute. Opinion: real people should eat real food, not the chemical stew of substitute "food".
