If a thread is already started on this please let me know - I did look and didn't find anything. It's coming up sooner than it seems - just got to get the whole holidays thing in the rear view mirror for another year. Tony ( catmandewe) and Chris' Annual BBQ at Desert Gardens (with celebrity guest cook roy) will be on Saturday 1/20/18 (right Tony?) - as always it's the same weekend as the big PowWow rock sale (1/17 thru 1/21). Who's coming and what kind of rock hounding side trips can we get lined up? Farthest traveled member is going to win an authentic RTH Gear T-shirt so chime in if you're coming and where from.

Crap, I gotta get off my butt and potentially book a room. @shotgunner Scott, any ideas how to handle this weekend? I'll look to stay in Ehrenberg if need be, but I need to know for sure. Thanks.

I already have my hotel reservations and will be coming in from San Diego, not all that far. I have not been to Quartzite in over 15 years so it should be a blast. Now I just have to sweet talk the wife in to letting me have a good chunk of spending money

Dave Dave our plans are up in the air. Small chance we have a trailer to sleep in. Decision made in the next 2 weeks, i guess. In the past I stayed at the motel 6 in Blythe. Have zero input on erhenburg. And we plan two visits. One for Tony's ( catmandewe) party (of course!) And one early in January to see all the new shit. BTW, Tony needs firewood. Everyone bring some firewood

Dave 2016 before we got our trailer we stayed at the Best Western Desert Oasis in Ehrenberg. Very nice decent hotel at a reasonable cost. '14 and '15 we stayed at the Regency Inn & Suites Blythe - reasonable cost, hit or miss on quality. We had to ask for a new room once because we got stuck with a stinky smoking and pets room.

Hubby and I were going to go until I went on the Best Western website to book a room tonight. We have always stayed there when we do go to Q. There were only a couple of rooms left for that weekend and at $161 and $190/night, we've decided to not go. In years past, I've gotten rooms for around $129 or so. Too rich for my blood.

Ouch! that is expensive. There are a lot of decent places to stay in Blythe - only a few minutes longer drive, not much.

The lovely Susan and I will be slumming out in the BLM desert with our solar enabled travel trailer. Anybody wanna go hounding we need to get a trip together. The rock club takes folks out twice a day during pow wow. You pay 3 dollars each to cover insurance per trip.

I'm staying in Ehrenberg, but only Wednesday and Thursday nights so I'll unfortunately miss the BBQ. My room was 125 per night. Not sur if that is the weeday rate, or because I booked in June. My room on January 1-3 was $85 per night. I always stay at the Best Western now. Blythe is across the time change line, which bugs the crap out of me for mysterious reasons - I just can't cope with it, and end up missing valuable shopping time by showing up at Desert Gardens at 11 instead of 10! Stayed at the Super 8 in Quartzsite a couple times. One time was fine, one time had very loud neighbors. And it had a recent bedbug report (when I looked at it for last year), although they may have cleaned that up, who knows.

One thing that has been stuck in my mind is Tony's BBQ has gotten huge with people coming from other groups in addition to the RTH folks. Thus it would be nice if we had a way of organizing an RTH identifier - either a meetup at Tony's bbq early in the afternoon while it's still light - or just something we all commit to wearing (carnation on our lapel LOL). Every year there are people at the BBQ who I miss out on meeting - it seems like it's been Bluesky78987 every year and - last year it was vegasjames - I couldn't believe it I saw his post about being there.

I simply don't care who all (says) they are going. Q is a BIG place!
If I can at all afford it, I'm going! It's been too long.

If only there was some way to identify the RTH crowd... I actually deleted a whole paragraph about everyone having an RTH shirt because I don't know how to coordinate it. In my head it seems like if I ask everyone to buy a shirt it's like I'm profiting (not literally) from it. I also can't subsidize the cost out of the general fund because the RTH markup per item is quite small ($6) which means Cafepress is still getting upwards of $20 per shirt - if response was great and 40 people took me up on it we could potentially drain most of the general fund overnight. My other thought is I could create a new shirt listing and waive the RTH markup and sell them at our cost ... it's a lot of work though and it's still asking folks to buy a $20 T-shirt so I'm wondering what the response would be if it would be worth it.

Do not stay at the Quartzite Yacht Club!! We booked reservations because it was on the main strip, and had a restaurant on the property.
Accommodations were ancient mobile homes with a thin wall dividing each home into two. Heater so noisy, the room shook.
Bedbugs.
Next trip, we stayed in nice hotel in Blythe.
Glad we went.

These buttons are pretty cheap on eBay right now. Maybe everyone can get one of these to wear as an identifier...
