Well, I got some privatized due to the photo shoppers(and my Mother) of the world out there. Especially since a certain somebody arrived on the scene. Who, me? If I come back in another life can I be Jim Carrey ?

After seeing these the thought of going has crossed my mind. It's either I go or wishful thinking that I can find someone to send me some
Not normally a stingy man but have an issue with my Rio's. I should send people Rio's but I don't. You could judge me for that short coming. I suppose covet comes to mind because they are fine and because of the effort. The effort was a pleasure, their beauty leads to coveting. What to do ? I don't think there is one person here that blames you for being stingy with them.. ..No judgments on my end...It's your collection.....I was more thinking along the lines of I have friends/co-workers, that have family in TX-just need to find someone with family in that area. I have some I "covet" that I almost get sick with the idea of letting them go (hence the growing collection), so I don't. I've termed it "rockgasm" (sorry, if I offend anyone), but that's the pleasure you get from a rock that is just too dam good to give up...you sir have a whole pile of em.....

This may be more appropriate....

Before I was married I used to cop dates bribing with rock hunting trips. Or even better trips to the kaolin pits for a dip in the lily white mud. Hate to say mud the mud skinny dipping won out as it led to much more devious behavior. Had this strange fetish for clay ever since. Who says your past doesn't catch up with you ? The Rio Grande valley is not the only place in Texas full of agate/jasper/pet wood and palm. Maybe mapping out contacts with a Texas rock hunting book might work. Just beware that Falcon Lake is open to the public. Texans funny about trespassers.

Images being put in my head that probably don't need to be there I'll have to see find out where everyone is located-Might be weird though to just be all "Hey, can you pick up some rocks for me when you are there" But by now they know me and my strange obsession with rocks...

Funny stuff lol. Never know about humans. Ah, you need trained eyes for people to pick up rocks for you. South Texas is warm in the cold of the winter. Might be a perfect retreat. You should go. I gotta get back down there. Really need a boat; I know now where the hot spots are. Must have a boat ! I've posted this many times, the gravel pit they let me enter, and the rocks I collected in 3 minutes tim in one little spot in the pile:

I could spend a month in that pit. I did call a friend that is going to the Austin area to visit family-when I told her what I wanted, she told me I needed a man in my life----I'm like no, I really need these rocks in my life They don't get it......

I am waiting for you to build that 400 pound capacity tumbler so you can polish those big agates whole. Sure there may be a few technical issues to resolve but should be no hill for a stepper!

Back in high school and college those clay coated bodies look fine. Not so good at this age. The kaolin in those Georgia mines are about close to facial grade. You see that pile of 2 to 4 inch cobbles ? Those were dug not 300 yards from the river, prime Rio agate deposit. I got a price on having 17 ton truck deliver 17 tons to to Atlanta. It was cheaper than my trip out there. I could have had two 17 ton loads for the cost of an 18 day trip. Just saying, if you had some big landscape islands in your yard to spread them out on for $2500 and go rock hunting in them I think you would have more pretty rocks than I collected. If you lived close to that gravel pit you could have them delivered locally for $30/ton. You should see the agates I picked up at the Zapata McDonald's landscape island. This was one of them:

Henry, I want you to imagine a large round plate say 6 feet in diameter rotating about 30 RPM. With say 30 or 40 6 inch pipe stubs welded to it. Each pipe stub has media and one big rock in it, capped. A sort of ferris wheel tumbler. That would be one way of tumbling 30 to 40 big rocks at a time. To avoid them hitting each other in a bulk tumbler. Maybe best to have it outside with a tilt mechanism so you could do bulk clean outs by dumping the whole monster into a drainable water holding tank below. Or it could be done on a smaller scale.

If you get more like that in the pile it would be so worth it.

MsAliThe big Rio gravel pits stay closed much of the time. They seem to open them up when a big construction project is going on. The first time out there they were making the main Hwy into 4 lanes. There was gravel piles dumped up and down the project for 5 miles, lots of agate to be found. That pit in photo above was about 1/20th the size of the big pit north of Zapata. I found the owner but he would not let me in the big pit. Went there late last year and all the pits were covered with weeds. The big ones were all shut down. A few small pits to service farms and maintenance of roads were open.

Sad thing is they will sit for years like that. Contacting the owners of the big ones might be a way to go-they may be willing to let stuff go for less if its been sitting awhile

There is a landscape company in Zapata I looked up with express intent. They had a large pile of Rio gravels in the yard, guessing 3 dump truck loads. Washed and free of caliche. I asked if I could stretch the garden hose to the pile to wet them so I could see the colors better. They were curious as to what I was doing and the whole staff came out to watch. I collected a couple of 5 gallon buckets of nature's finest whilst they watched. Obviously they had never had a rock collector in their life. The value of tumbles ? Ah, I had brought a bucket of tumbled Rio's and handed small hand full out to each of them. They then saw the light. Ended up with 10 gallons of free fine agates and woods. Being a really dirty old man I did give that fine looking Spanish-American secretary(OMG and lightning strike me dead) green and red Rio tumbles representing the color of the Mexican flag. Sorry, I had been away for a couple of weeks and I did tell my wife I had illicit desires. Taking it a step further I thought about paying them $50 to reshuffle that pile with their loader so new agates would be exposed. They were starting to get bored so I moved on. As you mentioned, many people do not have a strong fetish for rocks.
