A red red Rio cobble. Jasper ? Heavy dense and no cracks. Will find out how hard the it hits the diamond wheel. Sawed cracked sections off with 18 inch rock saw. Ready to shape on diamond wheel. Intentionally collected this size for doing big rocks. Using drying water to find fractures, amazingly, no cracks found. Yet. Unusual. 1 pound 5 ounces. May grind to fit mouth of small Mini Sonic hopper. Will have to sift agate media to smaller sizes to have space to move in Mini Sonic hopper.

Interesting rock... I would probably call it a jasper.

Cannot wait to see how this one turns out This rock may qualify for a zero defector Ali. You can see how nature has tumbled it hard. It takes really good rock to withstand whatever nature did to it at that location. Bet that 49 out of 50 or more that size have at least one serious fracture. Most have multiple fractures. This does look like a jasper and some of the jaspers take a polish and some not so well.

Interesting rock... I would probably call it a jasper. It is either a jasper or a plume type agate that has completely been taken over by red plumes. Plume infiltration so to speak. I was leaning toward plumes but lets see what happens when it is polished. Put a window on it. Color is classic red jasper.

You will have to do a progress pic after you shape it. Does it have green in it also?

You will have to do a progress pic after you shape it. Does it have green in it also? I will do so. I do it on a tile saw with a fat diamond blade. It does have a dog turd green outer layer. Sorry about the adjective, best I could do. Like an outer layer where it incubated in some kind of chemical stew. To stretch imagination, it sat in a dino turd lol. I'll try to grind the turd stain off and go for monotone red. Maybe it is petrified blood ? NOT

Let's just say the photo color did it justice. Yep, that is probably not a stain. Did not look at it that close. Like you said, a blob of yellow/green moss infiltration. It will be assessed at the pre-grind. May shave it off, may leave it, hmmmm.

I sliced up a monotone red jasper (?) a few months ago. Hardest darned stone I ever cut. Had to dress the blade on my 10" tile saw after every slice.

I'm not sure. Probably the right thing. This has become a focal point. Let me ask your advise. Tired of making all the decisions.

Apparently silicified mud can challenge diamond blades. No sympathy from me. Down here in the southeast where silica is dissolved out of diatomaceous limestone from organic acid water rocks become silicified so hard they laugh at diamond wheels. It has been a curse self collecting and tumbling these Mohs 26 cherts and petrified corals. That's one reason I buy bulk SiC and wear out tumbler barrels every 2 years. Just remember the gemstone value of your extremely hard jasper. May ease the pain. This is by far the hardest toughest agate I ever tried to grind. Note the sharp edges. I gave up on grinding it before tumble. I believe it comes from Africa. It whipped me so I don't want to remember it's name.

Much more common than the Kentucky agate... looks like the cosmos.

Costly, must be hard to find. garage rocker shared some Kentucky agate with me. Fine stuff.

Not sure to this day if artistic or autistic. I've known autistic people who were extremely artistic. Maybe the two go hand in hand?
