Try googling Pot Melts... you can get really interesting patterns... Opening the kiln is about as fun as opening the saw after a thunderegg. eg jamesp

Great. Reminds me of my experiments in mixing glass chips with clear glaze for pottery.
Those will be some amazing pendants, earrings, rings, bracelets, whatever.

Were good Billy. This is 100% debris from two glass blowers. One uses COE 96 Delphi brand and the other artist uses COE 96 Spectrum brand glass. So. Even the fancy computerized heat ramp follows exact specifications spelled out by the glass manufacturers. Not only COE, but best 'hot fuse' temp and best 'anneal' temp and their respective hold times and ramp rates are being utilized. So it's right by the book. Delphi and Spectrum glass varies 25F for min. hot fuse and 25F for anneal, but close enough to mix the two but still kept separate. Recipe is cookie cutter simple. Baked this pile with out a mold, made a 6 inch patty about 3/8 inch thick. Laid clear glass plates over the pile to add a lens over the top at final melt Probably brings back memories fernwood ? This is too much fun fernwood. Got a thicker brick cooling as we speak, chomping at bit to pull from the kiln oregon. Yes, like opening the rock saw. This time it is Delphi glass from the other glass artist.

Ha, I remember all that Jean rockpickerforever. i really enjoy metal smithing but can't sit still long enough to do it. Good luck on the ugly rock contest, maybe some stimulus for a name will come forth. Malignant sounds as good as any. Consider 'goiter', that word has a wonderful ring to it too.

Lots of true welding artists out there Alison doing Sci Fi, animals, folk art. Those guys are true artists. Stunning sculptures. Atlanta high arts have located fine pieces all over the city. They mesmerize. Some of the finest come out of Mexico; those guys are killer weld sculptures.

This time a bit larger block of Jamesonite vomitoidal mix from a more flamboyantly colored glass artist. Need to bump max temp hold up a bit to better fusion. These glass bits picked out of a lot of glass scrap. I have to haul off the junk glass to get this colored stuff. So I dispose of the trash in a pit to be back filled. Maybe 10 to 15% is good reusable material. Labor intensive. Also some glass tumbles. Have increased the ratio of glass to media when tumbling but suffering a slight loss in polish. www.flickr.com/photos/67205364@N06/albums/72157691404669861

Wow that last pic is just stunning. One would have to thank the glass artist Kurt. I simply piled his crumbs and melted them. No skill on my part - zero - nil. Very skilled at silver tonguing the glass man for his trash lol.

Yeah, but just imagine if this would be half size, and the absolutely stunning cab you could create with it. Even cutting into half and making two cabs still makes it stunners.

This type glass was so popular with our parents and Grandparents. Nowadays considered dust collectors, and things are not handed down generation to generation. Shame. Memories of the past captured in a jewelry form.(except the vomit lol). And J Hendrix as fossilman mentioned. and those memories half baked like Michael's.

Most of those are the pinch off Alison, when blowing the glass. This pinch off often has all the color and patterns of the vase. Can be the sweet spot of the pot in a small package so to speak. Getting ready to bake another, hmmm, mixed or target the color ? Been wiring the basement for receptacles and lights. Kiln too. Got tile saw next to kiln. Yes Alison needs a the saw. I got a Ryobi from H Depot for $108. It has great design. Full surround drip gutter around table top. Nice and dry.
