Tungsten wire is pretty expensive, or at least was last time I bought some. It is high temperature but can vaporize in to tungsten oxide. Don't know what temp this will occur but found that out when applying an electrical current to tungsten wire in air. Vaporizes instantly. That is why the tungsten wire in incandescent bulbs is heated in an vacuum or inert gas. For a high temp wire I would go with high temp kiln elements like Kanthal heating elements. Heating elements are pretty cheap. Or there are high temp kiln wires like this www.bigceramicstore.com/high-temp-wire-17-gauge-10ft.html

James what model # is your kiln?....................................MrP It's a Paragon E-10 Michael with a Sentry Epress 3.0 controller. It had never been used, I paid $450. Inside is 9x9x9. You have a kiln ?

Seem's to prefer more conservative colors. Left and a right ? Janke makes a lot of darker patterns and colors, his customer base may a be less family oriented wilder bunch. I picked thru his stuff today and loaded the mold with it for a walk on the wilder side color mix: Made a taller mold, might make 6x6x3 inch bricks. Jake's stuff in above tray: I also figured up some containers that will fit in the drawers of a roll around tool chest to separate the glass. Kord brand square nursery pots come in many sizes.

You have a kiln ? I have 2. A larger 240 volt Skutt and a smaller 120 volt one that I am not sure of the brand. I got both very cheap but have never used either one. They are both manual control so have been researching how to use them. You sure got a great buy on the one you bought........................MrP

Maybe ya balance each other out? I like both styles. Depends on my mood I guess There's a couple pieces in there is like to see mixed together. Did you take him a picture of that vase you showed me? Good idea for storage

You sure got a great buy on the one you bought........................MrP Well, glass I am getting from the local artist is 100% Spectrum COE 96. It has a specific 4 step heat schedule with 4 temps, 4 ramp rates and 4 hold times. So, the Sentry controller sure comes in handy for walking away from the kiln. Following the heat schedule is critical when casting big thick bricks of glass. Fusing pendants is much more user friendly. I bought an old Skutt yesterday off of Craig's list for little of nothing with the old type control. A big stackable 220VAC unit. I want to use only one of the sections for doing like 18 inch plates of glass. Has a top opening lid. But lid has no coils, not the best for glass. And I do not like the control as it is too manual for my time schedule. So, I was looking on Ebay at automatic kiln controllers. My education is not into controls so I am intimidated. Michael, I believe these cheap controllers with a K thermocouple for needed 1400 to 1600F will do the trick but me not sure. $85, looks like it has every thing needed. Perhaps you are more electrically smart. Glass is typically heated at 300F per hour, held at various temps for 10 to 60 minutes, all in about 4 steps. Bricks are taking 20 hours, maybe 8 hours in cooling. Peak temp is usually 1450F. From Ebay: www.ebay.com/itm/PID-Temperature-Controller-Kiln-Probe-SSR-Relay-40A-HS-ABS-Box-Pottery-Glass-F-C/122176024486?hash=item1c72422fa6:g:WiQAAOSwgkRVU7-K

No opening of the kiln to play with molten glass yet? (Raking or combing) Goggles, gloves, fire... I also think fewer colors, themes might be of more interest. The thick blocks still look to have some air pockets/bubbles? No problems with tumbling them? I haven't worked with such huge thickness of glass, but wouldn't be surprised if the kiln times were much longer to get a nice solid uniform brick. 2c. molten glass, fun stuff. e.g. jamesp

Jim she is picking out some beautiful colors. A Woman's touch is never wrong-customers however can be I have people order butt ugly fire pits quite regularly. Yes sir, what ever you want ! I avoid expressing my opinion to both customers w/poor taste and wife. And ALWAYS compliment the wife's taste. Life easy that way. Never fails to amaze me how different people are. Wife is good with colors. However she struggles in competing with me. Which really gets her goat. She steals my fire pits and lists them on her store next to mine on Etsy and reduces the price lower than mine and they still buy from me. That really get her blood flowing lol.

Only fused a few times. The bricks do have a few bubbles. I have not tumble polished any of the pieces I have fused. Hope they tumble well. I do a fairly standard heat schedule for this type of glass. I do need to raise the heat a bit to melt the top flatter. My kiln has a small chamber with a lot of coils so it is great for bricks. Looking forward to mixing and trying all kinds of things.

But that's just my opinion
And she does have good taste in colors-more feminine than you
I've never been one to agree with anyone just to appease them-personally I think we all should be able to voice an opinion. Otherwise crap just builds up Honesty might hurt for awhile, but Id take it any day over not being honest
People fascinate me in how different we all are, but in so many ways the same. I love human behavior

Believe me, I have had requests for custom built designs that would turn your stomach. In two cases bars returned them. Both buying several pits. Wanted me to raise them up on long legs so the inebriated would stop falling into them lol. Those were terrible looking but did serve a function. Brutal honesty w/spouse, well, does not always pay dividends around here. No good answer, honesty is best though. Maybe too much patronizing on my part, but she gets it in a round about way. The girl is highly defensive. Holy cow. This can be a problem. That is why I have friends like you Alison. And my wife is totally cool with it. She knows we have communication issues. You have to seek other's opinions. Women are from Venus, men are from Uranus under this roof. Yes humans totally different.

Lacking some common sense there.... We do need others opinions sometimes. And youve got a lot of freinds on here to give it (sometimes unasked for eh?) π Men make it complicated...women are easy.
