The larva in the pet wood really caught my eye because of its counterpart I've found in coprolites. Can you tell if it's the remains of a larva, or the cast of its dung, or something else related?

The edges of the rocks in photos 2 and 3 have that classic side to side stitching pattern that is done to reduce a piece of rock down to a biface. I'm surprised that you haven't found any points or tools. I find a lot of flakes, cores, and cast off broken pieces but I've never found any whole implements. strange.

Jason, you promised me that you wouldn't show anyone those! 🤣🤣🤣 Makes me wonder if RWA3006 has a tattoo of his favorite rock...and just where on his body it would be tattooed! LOL Now you've done it. I could get into a lot of trouble because of you!

I got formal geology education in college back in the day and my interest in this stuff has been lifelong so I've picked up a few things on the way. I'm often amazed at the depth and broadness of knowledge here.
I can tell you that there are people on this forum that have deep knowledge and would even say there are individuals here who are authorities in certain areas of specialization in geology, lapidary arts, science, etc.

I posted this in the Cabochon thread earlier with the title Crappy Cabs, but I think it's appropriate to post it here too. These are some bolo/bola tie cabs I cut from material Randy RWA3006 kindly sent to me. It's interesting material to cut. I still haven't perfected the polish but I'm experimenting with a variety of techniques and hopefully I'll eventually find the key. It undercuts slightly, especially on flat surfaces like the cab backs. Or at least it did for me. Thanks for looking. Wow, those are beautiful. Thanks for posting them here and I think you really did justice to the material.

Do you think dung Beetles find and follow the weak lines between lumps as they navigate through the dung? Is there a difference between those that roll the balls to distant locations, and those that choose to stay and live inside the dung? Just personal opinion to the two questions: yes and yes. I think it's a common tendency in nature to follow the path of least resistance unless there's some kind of a motivator to take a more rigorous course. I've read that by the time most dinosaurs were in existence there were many species of dung beetles. Parasites too, for that matter.

I would consider vegasjames to be a solid resource for the Nevada part of your trip. He's very knowledgeable about that area.

Best guess, a small beef earlier in the day led to mass exodus.
I hope he stays FWIW.
Will you PM me with why you think he did that? I guess he didn't appreciate that many of us did not validate his OP on this thread. I know I didn't feel too sympathetic to his complaint of slab prices. Too bad, I liked his jade keys and his contributions to RTH.

I feel the pain of people trying to buy slabs, rough, etc. but I can tell you from experience as a guy who's done a lot of hounding and selling that I can't begin to imagine making much profit selling this stuff. I sell a bit and do it only as a hobby and to make space I need for other things. Even if I raised my prices to fall in line with others, I'd take a beating on the bottom line. That's why there's so many rock shops that have died and even then, they had to have another iron in the fire to keep going.
People who have never sold a large amount of slabs or rock can't even begin to imagine how much time and money it takes to harvest the material, sort and grade it, store it, cut it, market it, package it, ship it, ad nauseum. That doesn't even factor in the overhead costs of the business infrastructure. If it was a lucrative business there would be more people doing it and it sure appears to me that the glory days of rock hounding and lapidary are gone.

Idk abt all the accts/users/commenters all being real tho. Some feel very bot-ish to me. I'm sure you're absolutely correct. No doubt there will be those who use it for profit or nefarious purposes. I've already seen what I believe to be these tools used to promote agendas and narratives.
