any of you make bushings so that your wheel, blade or whatever will fit on a smaller shaft? just wondering what might work.

I just got/won an ebay auction for a split phase 1/3 hp 1750 rpm for $40 and some change which includes shipping, it looks almost new.

I was thinking that as well, if you could find one with very thing treads you probably could, but the one he's using would take a lot of work I think.

I run six wheels with a 1/8 hp motor no problem. 14” saw has a 1/3 hp motor, no problem. are these "stock" motors or what did they come off of? what's the label say on the 1/8? rpms etc

Generally speaking i think when they make motors they tend to give the lower rpms more torque because of what they are ment to do. If a motor has low rpm chances are its because it needs to work hard, not fast. Look at fan motors very high rpm but very little torque. This isn't always true but as a general rule I think it is. just my opinion.

I too have thought about a higher rpm reduced down, but I have to wonder if those 3500 rpm motors have as much torque as the 1750, I'm thinking they don't and that's why the lower rpm motors are used and perfered.

hope this is the correct section....
when choosing a motor for a polisher or grinder what horse power should one look for?
seems the idea rpm is like 1725.
what I have learned is 3 phase motors require special wiring etc and are way more than an average person like me can deal with.

I have one as well, and no idea how to use it, there's some youtube videos and making bumpers for the outer rim but I don't recall if they did anything to the pieces they where polishing, might not have to but I'm not sure.

on my unit the pads turn, I would assume the one on the video does as well.
I'm think about putting an arbor motor adapter on the one with the pulleys and making a super grinder.

I've had this machine for a long time, never used it, not really sure what it's for or does. The 2 pads seem farely obvious, but do I put pads over top of them? Seems they are for polishing. The other side has the 2 dish looking things, there's an internal water pump that pumps water onto them, no idea if it works or what they are for. I have 2 of these arbor things, no threads on them, must be useful for something. All ideas appreciated. Attachments:

I see there are several different oxides etc for polishing, is there a tutorial as to what to use for different stones? it all gets rather confusing. Different substances and different grits.

so I'm still experimenting/learning
I have a nice piece of stone that I decided to do a free from cab from. I have some buffing wheels and buffing compounds but it won't shine up the stone as much as I want, I used jewelers rouge and trilopi and gives them a dull shine but not the high gloss I'm after. any suggestions? thanks.

why did you use 10" blades instead of something smaller? smaller is cheaper......
harbor freight has mansory blades 4" for $6 but everyone is talking about using much larger blades, is there a reason? thanks.
