That is incredibly well done. Just beautiful. Don't ya love when mistakes actually help you improve the piece?

I love how that jasper cab is not perfect. It gives the illusion of movement. Your setting is just right for it. Great stuff!

Thanks for the kind remarks. Y'all seem to like the texturing on the silver. All it took was one of my specialty hammers that is in bad shape. It's supposed to make straight lines all around the stone, but ended up like you see instead. But I like it. Like all of you, I want each piece to be one-of-a-kind. Also, the flash is drowning out the oxidation. Looks better than the photo.

I stopped smithing about 18 months ago. Got into other things, like polymer clay and bead weaving and staring into space. However, meeting up with an old friend next weekend and wanted to make her something. 18 months can wreak havoc on your smithing equipment! But I gave it a shot. On further thought, I should've left the back open so the Rainbow Moonstone was a bit more colorful, but hopefully she likes it anyway. The bezel looks the way it does cos I ran it through a texturing thing I have. (I had trouble with the bail, always have, so just used a glue-on bail, only silver plated. You can see a tiny bit of glue here peeking out, but not with the naked eye.) I cannot believe I didn't mar the stone! Yay!

The key phrase is "I see flaws on the pic not easily seen by the eye." I think we all get a little too critical of our blow-up pics, me included. People (generally) don't walk around with loupes on Xmas to inspect their presents. Or any time of year. We're our own worst enemies! She'll love it.

I put patina on a Fordite ring I made. I was really careful and used a fine point dry brush. My Fordite was darker than yours and, slob that I am, I still didn't get patina on the cab. I know it's different with wire wraps, there are a ton of little spaces you can't see that it could bleed into. I know Fordite is too expensive to test on, to see if the patina would come off. Now I'm just blabbering. Sorry. Thinking out loud. Gorgeous ring! I love the fordite and the setting. Thank you. It was the first piece of Fordite I ever bought, quite awhile ago. Cost like $2 then. It was several more years before I learned how to solder. I love that it's mostly metallic paint. I have other pieces just sitting around that cost a lot more, but I got burned out on jewelry making early summer. They'll have to wait till the bug bites again.

Beautiful work as always, but I'd oxidize the Fordite. The sterling is too pale next to all that white. Just my opinion. I agree and I almost did. But, I think whilst cleaning and polishing, some of the dark would come off on the cabs and I wouldn't be able to get it off. I haven't patinaed with white fordite before- or any fordite. As usual, the quality of your work is amazing. The wraps are great, but never overpower the stone. Superb!

Simple lines, no flourishes... definitely works for a guy.
