As a serious collector of modern lithic art the points from India are not even in the same ballpark as Stan's work. That skill level is not easy to achieve. I'd post a few of my frames but I'm currently too lazy to transfer them to Photobucket.

Lucky you to have a mentor! Great job for a first attempt under time constraints! I can't wait to try it.

Thanks Dave, I'll pass that info on to my wife. Probably best to just buy the individual wire sizes is what I'm taking away from that. Anyone else with experience in reducing wire through a draw plate and going through the annealing process? How was it?

So, my wife has a draw plate and would like your thoughts on the most economical size and hardness of silver wire to buy.
She would like to buy in bulk- enough to last for a while; somewhere in the 50 to 100 ounce range perhaps, to make many different sizes and shapes using the draw plate. I was thinking 18 or 20 ga. but not sure what hardness to get. Also do you use sterling or .999 silver for wire wrapping?
Thanks in advance for everyone's thoughts!

By the way Wendy, I picked up both of Jim & Tom Harmon's books which I've enjoyed reading and I'll be re-reading "The How-To's of cabbing & carving Montana Agates"prior to slabbing the MA, such nice quality material deserves being processed correctly.

Why don't I find these on my local beach? I like the thought of being a hero and rescuing such poor defenseless rocks from the sea:)

Well CaptBob, No cabbing yet though I have a nice CabKing 8" just waiting for room to set it up. As of late I've been stocking up on whatever good quality rough material I can find in anticipation of retirement sometime in the comming year when I'll have lots of time, a good deal less money and a move out of the rat race in Boca Raton to a nice semi rural 2nd home in Old Homosassa Springs. Learning to cab well and wire wrap will be one of my hobbies.

I also received a LFRB of Mr. Harmons premium Montana Agate thanks to Wendy and pleased enough so that I ordered another of same as well as a small box of tumbling material.
