These are the Arizona petrified wood from the 2016 world tumbling contest. I did not get any good pictures of the five I sent in so here are all the rest that survived to the end. Started as three pounds and ended at less then one pound. This material was difficult and the fractures were never ending but getting it to shine was not an issue. I was getting a little bored with the loto process so I changed it up and rotary polished these. I do not feel that my five will be contenders but it was a fun tumble. Chuck Bro. Do you even tumble? Those are disgraceful.

Congratulations! You'll have to share pics of your first batch, and let me know how the experience goes. I'm still insisting that I learn to do things the hard way. =) Come on man. Everyone's doing it. Don't you want to be one of the cool kids?

Could be. Removed state if that's the case. I've only seen it advertised as Utah wonderstone.

First two pictures aren't showing up.
Regarding the "will they tumble" pile, yes they will and most, probably all, will take a nice shine. Not sure about the banded red one or the pile of petrified dog diarrhea, but the rest look like jaspers or cherts. #12 is also an agate.

Will consider a SFRB or MFRB depending on price. Thanks.

Looking for pieces of pet wood that are branched, twisted/knotted or look similar to driftwood. Basically, pieces that have retained some natural characteristics and actually look like wood, not boulders/rocks. Would also consider buying driftwood if I'm not able to acquire pet wood. Must be true thoroughly leached driftwood. Otherwise tannins from the wood stain the water and potentially mess with the biomass... Pet wood best bet. I have gone through that process before where I would boil then soak locally collected wood to prepare for aquarium use. Just want to avoid the hassle. Plus pet wood is cooler anyway.

Either one nice center piece or several smaller pieces. PM me if you have some pictures you can post or text to me.

You build a wall to keep 'em out. Then make the kids pay for the wall.

I do some rounding in a rotary, but I'm the same way; I don't mind natural shapes at all. I just like to add a little shine to specimens in my collection.

I wanted to confirm identity b/c that email address is associated with someone named "Tom Williams." But the fact that it's local pickup alleviates concerns.
Not trying to hassle OP; Just want to make sure nothing shady is going on.

Since we're still brainstorming ideas, maybe try pea gravel or agate/stone media instead of plastic pellets in stage 4. I realize that plenty of folks have good luck with plastic, but pea gravel was my filler of choice and i felt that my shine was pretty decent. Not sure why it would work better than plastic, but I'll take a shot at applying some speculative "broscience." Perhaps stone has greater mass and density which would in turn result in greater force. Greater force carrying grit = better abrasion?
I don't know what the hell i'm talking about. Try carrying a double-terminated quartz crystal in your pocket, do the hokey pokey, and wait till the moon is full before opening your barrel.

I don't know what to tell you man. I don't believe running stage 1 & 2 again is the answer b/c your rocks already look nicely rounded and fairly smooth.
Maybe it's time to add some dog food, baking soda, lawn clippings, and a can of Mountain Dew to your barrel.

I've made some paper micarta scales & handles before. Wish I had the equipment to make some from stone.
