I have 3 or 4 SFR boxes of Montana agates for sale. Plenty of dendrites and inclusions in the material. Most of these are medium sized nodules; About the size of a bar of soap, some larger some smaller. There's a quarter in the picture to give an indication of size. I can break some up into tumble-sized pieces, if requested. $11.50 + $7.00 Shipping. $18.50 total. PM me if interested.

I'd offer, but my material would probably be considered punishments, rather than prizes compared to Garage Rocker's.

The issue with HF isn't inferior performance. It's quality control. A functional unit will work the same as a Lortone. There's simply a higher rate of failure or malfunction.
For example, out of 100 HF tumblers sold, 30 units may have some sort of defect. The other 70 work perfectly fine.
Compare that to a Lortone, where 5 out 100 might be defective.

Pescadero is probably your best bet. It's more than an hour away from Fremont but it's so scenic that your wife probably wouldn't mind too much. There's a large chain of specialized nurseries on the road that leads into Half Moon Bay if she's into gardening. Is there a particular beach that is better than others? I just did a quick Google search and it looks like there are several beaches in the area (Pigeon Point, Bean Hollow, Pebble). Looks like there are some signs that warn against removing pebbles.

That's el toro brewing co and is currently for sale. Damn... is it still open for business or shut down? Can you imagine if the new owners come in and remodel and toss those counter tops out? #dumpsterdive

Thanks all. Not sure i'll make it to Morgan Hill, but Stony Creek looks amazing and might warrant a side trip. Tommy - Did i miss something in your post or videos about how to access the areas open to the public for collecting?

Taking a short trip to Fremont in November. Don't know if i can convince my wife to trek any further than an hour away for tumbling rough, fossils or mineral specimens.
Anything nearby for rockhounding / collecting?

I know you said you don't trust eBay, but there are some great sellers with low priced material.
People get spooked from the horror stories, but that's generally the only time people write about their eBay experiences; To complain. You don't see posts about every other transaction that goes smoothly.
I've had thousands of transactions as a buyer and a seller, and can count on one hand the number of times things have ended poorly.

Howdy and welcome to the forum. Ditto the Rockshed and a couple others. A unique and inexpensive source of rough rock and rough tumble is Richardson Rock Ranch in Oregon. Most people think of them as thunder eggs but they sell a lot of spheres and stone sculptures they make in their shop and so their dirt cheap tumble has many things you will never see for sale as tumble. You can also buy some of their decent rough slabbing rock and break it down to tumble size. $2.00 per pound for neat tumble material. richardsonrockranch.com/pricelist.htmlNice material at a good price, but be prepared for high shipping cost and (possible) delays. They are a family operation, and as such, family 'situations' can and will result in lengthy delays and/or forgotten orders. It happened to me the one and only time I tried to place an order. That, and lack of flat rate shipping, has me shopping elsewhere. I've tried contacting them on a couple occasions to inquire on shipping. No response.

Here's a couple at various stages of coarse grind, plus an untumbled chunk for comparison.

Nice job.
Nowadays I must look like a weirdo; I can't walk past landscaping rocks at businesses without staring at the ground like i'm looking for a lost contact lens or something.

"Pre-polish" is just a label applied to fine grit used in the stage preceding polish. AO 500, SiC 500, or AO 1000 can all be used in a pre-polish stage.
