Another thing to check, is your blade parallel with your vise. If the alignment moved the rock slab could be wedging in as it cuts.

That motor should not be over heating, it sounds like the saw is feeding faster then it is cutting, or your arbor is not turning freely and working the motor hard. What is the condition of the blade? Do you have the correct size pulley's ? Do you have two much pressure on the split nut, not allowing the saw to adjust the feed rate?
Don't give up on the saw yet, it is one of the best saws you can get.

I can't wait to see some slabs of that last one, it's a beauty. How was the weather up there, seems a bit warm yet.

Hop on Youtube check out some videos, I believe the new HP Lapidary may have some videos, chuck a preform in and start playing around. Plan on converting to all diamond, much faster and easier. Sphereheaven.com good page to check out. You can get some good grinding cups from JSGEM's that will take the diamond pads the counter top guys use, pads cheap when order out of China. NRG will have some great input. If you are only planing on cutting spheres, get a 14" Drop saw, Very fast for preforming. Otherwise look for an nice used 18" saw on CL. Good luck, Tim

I highly doubt that the current is traveling through the v-belts. If you have a multi-meter try measuring the voltage from ground to the water valve with the pump on and grinder off.

Water is a conductor, you could have a minor short in the pump and the electricity is traveling up the water lines and shorting out from the water valve to the grinder housing. Is the valve brass? If so, it could short out to a metal housing or anything that is wet.

Do you get shocked if the wheels are turning and the water pump is unplugged?

It's a Highland Park. Top of the line saw. Take care of it and it will out last grand kids.

The price of any lapidary equipment is very relative to where you live. In Az, if you can find a HP slab saw of any size for $600, it will require some TLC prior to use. (New bearings and bushings). It is getting harder and harder to find any decent lapidary equipment at a fair price these days, everyone wants near retail pricing.
My only major concern with that saw is why is there a bungy cord on the feed screw shaft? I would verify that the feed worm gears are good shape, they are expensive and there are only a few places to purchase them. If it was near me, that saw would already be in my garage.

"Cha-Ching" One of the best noises a saw can make.

Traveled these roads more then a few times when I use to live at 52/McDowell and 68th/McKellips. Never gets old viewing the area.
Thanks for posting, don't get out that way much any more since I moved a little further east.

Reminds me of Washington State petrified wood. I have a similar piece a friend from WA gave me.

Was this the stuff in Payson? I was wondering where it went, was hoping it was still around this weekend to get. Nice score.

I was at Burro Creek a few weeks ago. I suspect that Tommy camps in the same spot that I do. I found stuff piled up that belongs hundreds of miles away from BC. Were you camping out just above the creek bed?

Hey Tommy... Is that BC from that piece that you and I split? If so, I got some slabbing to do this weekend.
