I have never been successful attempting short cuts when tumbling. Patience is really a virtue in this hobby. My whole life has been tumbling in slow motion.

Well, in that case . . . It’s easy enough to fix. All it takes is a little willpower and a tap of the edit button. : ) Bold of you to assume I have any willpower... There was a time (10 years ago) when any and all grammatical, syntax, or spelling errors online would irritate me. Now I honestly don't care that much (find it a bit pedantic honestly). My philosophy now is if you can get your idea across to the "average" human (eg, through context clues), you're fine. Plus , Not everybody speaks English, so how could I possibly care about the Grammar and Spelling ?

I do that cleaning step between each Stage of tumbling to insure that the rocks are clean and grit-free before starting the next stage.

Have you let your rocks dry out with slurry on them, that will make it really stick into cracks. I've had good luck cleaning the rocks using a rotary tumbler. Place rocks in there and fill To The Top with water and add a small amount of Detergent, Borax is used a lot around here, I have had good results with Dawn Dishwashing Soap. Tumble for an hour or more, don't let them dry out until polished.

I have the opposite problem, I am a stagehand in a 2000 seat theater and we are working a Lot lately as the economy is doing good. We will start an event in the morning and won't be going home till midnight, for days in a row. I have two 6 pound barrels rolling in Stage 3 and am now 4 days past-due on a cleanout and advancement to the next stage. Like I don't have enough Stages in my life? Now I have time today, but my Cleanout area is outside and it's gonna rain all day. Diana Ross tomorrow, then through the weekend doing symphony. Maybe I can do it in the next few days.
Doesn't really matter to me ... they will eventually get done.

Rock Tumbling is a Slow Motion hobby, it's all about Patience. Having One QT66 dual 6 pound barrels would be very much better than Two 33B's having four 3 pound barrels.

Looks like a metal strainer, They are known for leaving silvery markings on your rocks.

The oil and rock dust becomes a thick sludge in those bearings after a while.

While you are there, You should clean out the Bearing Cups. Pop the clips off the ends of the Roller Bars, then pull them out, remove the bearings, clean them out real good, put it all back together and add some oil back into the cups. maybe even add a coupla drops of oil into the motor oiling holes Then you will have a Refurbished rock tumbler. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/82835/refurbished-lortone-qt66

Hmmm , I used a Ball Mill 30 years ago while working at a fireworks company. We ran the mill outside, away from the building in case it exploded or caught fire. Steel balls are used in them and they weigh a lot, we never worried about the weight at all.
That ball mill looks a lot like a Lortone 3A which is a 3 pound tumbler that I have. Never once weighed the contents.

The weight rating on a barrel is more of a size for comparison to other barrels. It is not a limit on the capacity of the tumbler. You should fill the barrel properly and do not be concerned about the actual weight.

Just did cleanout after a coupla weeks running 220 grit. Two 6 pound barrals of Self collected Alabama rocks. Mostly Chert and Quartz.
Now running in 600 grit with plenty of plastic bead filler.
