I wish I had more money to spend on rocks, of which I have no idea what I’ll ever do with once they’re polished. Maybe you could wrap them with wire? My husband does this, and I want to make rocks for him to wrap! You will definitely want to visit the Wire Wrapping portion of this forum .

I've had a QT66 for 3 years and I love it. The 12 pound barrel will fit it too. When switching to the Next Stage of grit, I always run the rocks threw a Plain Water wash for about an hour before getting the Stage started, works well for me as I get great shiny rocks.
I like to use the larger 30 grit in my Stage 1 tumbles, but I have a cleanout sink that recovers any unused grit for use later as a Slurry Thickener.
Kingley North has the best Bulk Grit prices. kingsleynorth.com/lapidary-equipment-supplies/abrasive-media.html

Wow guys Thanks ! ! I made it all the way to 63 years old and this is my second Easter Birthday in all those years. Spent the day before smoking a brisket on the smoker grill for 10 hours and drinking plenty of local craft beer. Have been providing a Sound system and Stage for Drive-In Church services on Sunday mornings. However Rain and Thunder storms were predicted but we decided to push on with it. We had a couple of heavy sprinkles but made it through the service mostly dry. The rest of the day was total relaxation. Didn't login yesterday and was quite surprised to see birthday wishes sent my way.

The grit is settling after you lay it down, there is not a way for the grit to settle on One Side while it is spinning. You can test this by removing the barrel but set it down on the Round Side for a coupla minutes, then lay it flat and open it, look, there is the grit on the round side. You are not experiencing a problem, when you put the barrel back on the tumbler it will all mix together properly within a minute. As mentioned above, if you can thicken up the slurry a little bit then the grit will stick to the rocks better.

I have 2 Loretone Tumblers, a QT66 and a 3A, when they are both running they use 75 watts total. After 30 days that is a total of 55 Kilowatthours. Here in North Alabama power is cheap at 10 cents per Killowatthour. So that 55 kilowatthours costs me $5.50 a month or $66.oo a year.

The 3 Pound designation indicates the barrel size, it does not indicate how much to put in there.

Has anyone tried either Karo syrup or Spenda? I’m worried about the weight on some of my rocks, but not for others, The slurry tastes much better if you use Karo Syrup, not so good with sugar or the artificial stuff.

I work in the entertainment business as a stagehand. Just had 2 weeks of work canceled because public events are unsafe now. Could be bad for the whole industry.

Plus 1 on the QT66. But they can get hungry for more rocks. The bigger barrels make everything a little bit faster.

If the drive rods are not parallel it will make the barrels walk. I've got the Lortone 3A single barrel version, it has the barrel guide on it. I assumed that the 33B was the same. My dual barrel QT66 has the guide on it too.

On the end of the tumbler with the motor there us a raised U shaped piece of metal.
On the barrel is a slotted nut that keeps the lid locked on.
When you place the barrel on the tumbler, the slot in the nut fits onto the U shaped metal and prevents the barrel from walking.
The second barrel should walk toward the first barrel.

Bigger abrasives just makes sense when it comes to speeding shaping time. Bigger abrasives has been the trend in the past few years. I use 30-grit in the 6 pound barrel and 60-grit in the 3 pound barrel with very little water for the Win.
- James -
I loved that Ungraded SiC grit that I got from you. Screened it through 1/4 inch mesh and used it that way. Some larger particles lasted for a month in the 6 pound barrel. Still using the big SiC pebbles (1/4 > 1/2 inch) as Smalls in my stage 1 batches. The big ones will last 6 months.
These have been tumbled a coupla weeks

I have never been successful attempting short cuts when tumbling. Patience is really a virtue in this hobby. My whole life has been tumbling in slow motion.

Well, in that case . . . It’s easy enough to fix. All it takes is a little willpower and a tap of the edit button. : ) Bold of you to assume I have any willpower... There was a time (10 years ago) when any and all grammatical, syntax, or spelling errors online would irritate me. Now I honestly don't care that much (find it a bit pedantic honestly). My philosophy now is if you can get your idea across to the "average" human (eg, through context clues), you're fine. Plus , Not everybody speaks English, so how could I possibly care about the Grammar and Spelling ?
