Wow! Those are beautiful! The pictures I've been seeing here forced me into buying a kids tumbler (don't laugh I'm poor lol) and I just started step 2 today. Great job! www.ebay.com/itm/272682914992 Great deal here. My wife won't let me buy any more tumblers..... yet. But this is a good system looking like it will sell for the price of a cheap one. Thought I would pass it along.

There's nothing wrong with being poor. Definitely watch ebay for bargains. Sometimes we have to work our way up to the good stuff over time. Exactly what I am currently doing. The best deals are people who are done with the hobby, I always look for something of that nature in the description. Hell I went as far as to build my own tumbler. Gotta rebuild it though... live and learn haha!

Watch eBay for good tumbler prices. I have certain searches followed. Like I would search tumbler, then select hobby rocks category, and then select used for condition. I got a lortone qt66/qt12 with accessories for $150 shipped less than a month ago. You can find great stuff if you are patient.

That blue apatite is gorgeous! Where did you get it? eBay! Not cheap, but good quality.

Lol! That's the plan! Shiny rocks! I got my qt12/qt66 in today too, so I have some petrified wood and blue tiger eye going as well. Tiger eye is rough as can be so it will probably be 3 weeks of course. Can't wait to show off the large fire agate my son has going too(hopefully done in 2 weeks)

Bought this on a whim off eBay. The hematite is easy to identify. Any idea about the purple ish stuff? Not sure how I'm going to break it up yet, lol. This is the largest piece I've had so far.

Spacing seems to have fixed the issue. Thanks all for the input. Much appreciate. Bought another tumbler when I was drinking last night. I will now have 3 3lb barrels, 2 6lb barrels, and a 12lb. I think I may have a problem. Haha!

Thumblers recommended fix for the barrels jumping over the white "Stop washers" is very simple. Silicone lubricant on the washer and the barrel bottom. It worked for my AR-2. They also recommend that the lids be facing each other. I'm no expert. Just my 2 cents.

This piece deserves a good wire wrap. So unique.

Wish I could find stuff like this! Sadly, I love in Florida. Not bad for fossils here, but terrible for good mineral specimens.

Nope, it's dialed down via a potentiometer/rheostat/dimmer knob. The issue(I believe) is the shafts being too far apart(confirmed by previous comment) or possibly the reduction in power is causing the motor to not have enough power to keep it going at slow speeds. Or a combination of the 2. Torque may be the issue. What spacing are your shafts set to currently? Chuck About 7-8 inches. Bad decision on my part.

5000 rpm motor is fast. Does the drive shaft 'pull' the barrel away from the idler shaft? Nope, it's dialed down via a potentiometer/rheostat/dimmer knob. The issue(I believe) is the shafts being too far apart(confirmed by previous comment) or possibly the reduction in power is causing the motor to not have enough power to keep it going at slow speeds. Might your motor locking up at the lower rpm, wrong ohm dimmer switch or too much torque to reduce a 5000 rpm motor to such a low rpm. You are going to get some reduction from the diameter of your driven to the diameter of your barrel. Say for instance a 1 in shaft to a 10 in barrel you will reduce at full speed the barrel to 500 rpm. So now you have to reduce that 90 percent to get it to 50 rpm. I am not an electrician but I believe the motor running at 10 percent or so of its capacity doesn't have any torque. Just a thought. I have considered this too, hopefully the distance change solve the problem, if not, it's time to rebuild. Trial is fine with me, I love figuring things out, it's the error part that's a b****!

I have a home built running (3) lortone 12 pound barrels and also have (2) lortone QT12 tumblers running. My shaft spacing on my home built is 3.5 inches and the spacing on the stock Qt12 is 5". My homebuilt has been running for years non stop with zero issues but I also have a large 1/3 hp motor on it so no issues turning barrels. Chuck Much appreciated!
