I'm doing some checking on a motor that is sold on Amazon, supposed to be able to adapt it to the Lot O. Definitely interested in hearing more about that. Let me know what you find out. I do find it hard to believe that every single motor will only live a very short life or else no one would be buying the Lot-o anymore, but Shawn would definitely know better than me. In the meantime, I've been researching the Mini Sonic a bit more and one thing that concerns me a little is that I've read a comment here or there suggesting it's not as gentle on softer stones as the Lot-o. I wish I had saved some of the threads I found so I could refer to them again, but I'm pretty sure I saw a comment by jamesp saying that it didn't work so well on Obsidian and I have a whole batch of Obsidian to go through soon. I don't have enough rocks going through coarse to make anything with a larger capacity worth it I don't think. The size of the Lot-o and Mini Sonic barrels is perfect. I'll let you know what I find out, I think it's a job for the mechanically gifted. I'm not, I'll need a friend to help. A friend on FB does a lot of Obsidian and uses a Mini Sonic, exclusively. He gets the best polish I've seen, my Lot O doesn't come close. I'll be trying Obsidian but I've got a few batches ahead of it. I Started the Mini Sonic yesterday with poor results, must have had too large rocks. I'll be trying again, new learning curve.

The motor on my Lot-o died after 4 months and I'm a little wary of buying a new motor after reading about so many other Lot-o motor failures. Plus, I've literally checked the only 3 sites I can find selling the motor every day for almost 2 months now and no one has had them in stock. I loved the results of the Lot-o. I loved how easy it was to use. I loved how quiet it was (at least for the first month before it started to fail). But I can't replace the motor every 4 months, or even every 12 or 24 months. That's just to quick of a failure rate for me. I think if I can find a replacement motor I'll get it. But if that motor fails (rather quickly - I know it'll fail eventually), I definitely won't get another one. The Mini Sonic MT4 seems like the best alternative. I like that it doesn't have a motor. I can't really find much info on it, but it looks like it uses an electro-magnet to quickly vibrate the big clamp the hopper sits in. I do most of my business with Shawn at the Rock Shed, he recently got a new batch of Lot O motors but told me you can only expect 2 months out of them! I'm doing some checking on a motor that is sold on Amazon, supposed to be able to adapt it to the Lot O. I loved my Lot O, too, really sad to have to replaces it, not to mention $300.00! I think I'll get the Mini Sonic going today, seem like the recipes are similar.

My Lot O motor gave out and it seems the replacements are not very good. So, I went and bought a Mini Sonic and it's time to give it a try. Those of you that use one, I have a couple of ??
1) Stg 2, after rotary, will be 120/220, in the Lot O I just run the grit, no ceramic or Borax 2) Stg 3 and 4 are 500 AO and 1000 AO with ceramic and Borax 3) Polish is AO, usually, with ceramic and Borax Burnish at end with Borax and Ivory soap.
Will the runtimes be the same, I vary 36 hours in 120/220, 24 hrs in 500, 48 hours in 1000 and 48-72 hrs in Polish.
Any tips that will help out?
Thanks, Win

Hi, yes, I was using Fototime and it closed with no notice and no way to retrieve my albums. I'm afraid it's impossible to resurrect most threads.

I've been on Sand Moutain a number of times but never to that. It's a great playground for OHV and high clearance 4WD.

1Mark Very cool that you visit these sites, too. Nine Mile is a real treasure, thousands these works. I've visited twice and only brushed the surface. We were able to visit an excavation site in Nine Mile: The "Pregnant Buffalo", Nine Mile:

Thanks Rockjunquie and Parfive for the links, good stuff. Here area couple of examples in the Fremont style, both from the I-70 corridor in Utah. Fremont Indian State Park: Sego Canyon, a very easily accessed site:

Win - Thanks for posting these! I find the relics of times so far back it boggles the mind, to be so awe-inspiring!! It is quite a feeling to stand by these and think about the people back then, some are thousands of years old. The 23 Sheep panel, Gold Butte N.M.: Another panel in Gold Butte:

The pictographs are pretty cool.
Patty
All of the above are Pertroglyphs, created by chipping the image into the rock. Pictographs are images drawn with paint or in some cases mud. Each geographic area had a unique style, some overlapping. The ones I posted would be considered Virgin/Kayenta, I think VegasJames. too. Horseshoe Canyon in Utah has some of the most amazing Pictographs, Barrier Canyon Stye. I hiked this twice quite a few years ago, won't be going back, it's a tough one for an old guy. These are life size, the Great Ghost panel Another panel: Amazing:

We just got back from the trip to Utah and we had an excellent time and met some awesome people! I would like to put out a special huge thanks to Win , Yo and zarguy (Lynn) for making our trip extra special. We will talk about this trip for a long time and I got to send back some really spectacular material due to your help and I'm forever grateful! I will go through my pictures and post a write up of the trip this week. Win , do you mind if I post the pic of you and your wife in my write up? RTH continually gives me hope that there are still great humans in this world... I've met the nicest people looking for rocks! We had a great but way to short time with Jesse and Sarah. Glad it worked out, you sure covered a lot of ground! Pictures are OK.

I should be around, will you be renting an SUV, able to go a bit off road? My offer for the PW is still good. If you're day tripping to Zion and arriving after 8 AM, you'll need to park outside the park. Parking ranges from $20-$30/day and you'll take the free town shuttle to the park. Once inside you take the free Zion shuttle into the Main Canyon's scenic drive. They run frequently and you get off and on at any of the stops. Do a little research to see what you might want to experience in Zion. Angel's Landing (permit required) and The Narrows are the two favorite hikes for visitors. My wife and I love the East Side of the park, no shuttle and many pullouts to park and explore, take photos. This is the best site for information, reach out to me with any questions: citrusmilo.com/zionguide/Also, not far from Cedar City is the Kolob Canyons unit of Zion. A beautiful scenic drive, the short Timber Creek Trail at the end of the scenic drive is great. A really nice day could be spent driving I-15 to Parowan and visiting the Parowan Gap Petroglyph site, nearby are some dinosaur tracks. From there take Rt 143 through Brianhead ski resort and stop at the road to Brianhead Peak to collect some agate, I can PM you info if interested. Next would be visiting Cedar Breaks N.M, several viewpoints and some short hikes. The Visitor Center is closed for renovations. There was still some snow last week, may have melted by your visit. Continue down and go back to Cedar City or take a short detour to Navajo Lake. Duck Creek Village is nearby and Aunt Sue's is good for a meal. Sorry if this seems confusing, take a look at maps on line or paper and it will make sense. PM me any ??. We are getting a little Jeep Compass... I think it should be able to go off the road a bit, just not very far... I'll get the insurance:) Thanks a bunch for the link to the Citrusmilo site, we used it a ton for planning the Zion area of the trip. WOW, thanks for the continued information as well, it's very helpful. Those are some really great suggestions for getting around to see the sights... seems like there's endless sites to see there as well! How free are you through the week? I believe we are thinking about hitting the Zion area early in the week. If it could work out, I would enjoy meeting you and looking for some pet wood! I'll PM you my contact information. I don't think I have anything planned, we can certainly get together at some point. The Compass should be fine for my area, we'll find out. If we go for PW it should take us around two hours total.
