Nice! He's from Chippewa, I'm from Baraboo. We lived in Chippewa a few years and then bought our home somewhat near the Dells (far enough away to avoid tourist season). Love this State and the diversity it offers! You're all very helpful, thank you for taking the time to lead a newbie in the right direction. So many of the different things look just similar enough to make it real confusing when you have no clue! Actually a little ways NE of Chippewa but you're getting it narrowed down . By the way , I wasn't criticizing your photos , a rock in hand is sometimes easier to id than a photo . I know all about the Dells tourist season , stayed there for a couple summers while working construction . Motel on the far east end of town so I could escape down hwy 16 No worries, I didn't take it as criticism by any means. I've got thick skin anyway so it wouldn't of bothered me even if you said the photos were garbage haha. Growing up in Baraboo I always took waitressing jobs in the dells for the summer months. Good money but trying to get to work on time was a nightmare!

I can do better photos tomorrow. I'm a photographer but just snapped these quick with my phone for ease of upload. Are you in WI? The last one, the dark one came from either bayfield or Washburn. We stopped all over to trout fish and tried to pick something up that looked fun in each spot we stopped. I'm up north of you a ways , about 130 miles south of Washburn . Nice! 1 and 2 look to be either iron stained quartz or possibly jasp/agate . 3-5 look like a quartz blob that formed in an irregular shaped cavity . 6 looks to be a jasp/agate . Hard to tell by the pics though . I can do better photos tomorrow. I'm a photographer but just snapped these quick with my phone for ease of upload. Are you in WI? Thank you all! I was trying to get the bb code to work but it was giving me a hard time so I went for the safe bet of links! Seems so far I didn't do half bad with my guesses. 3,4, and 5 are all the same just different sides. Something about that one that I just really love! There are some other really neat looking finds from vacation but I haven't washed the red clay off of them yet to really get a good look. Here is one more, this is the other halfs favorite. 0901171049a by Tiffani Brilliott, on Flickr

We found these in Northern WI near Lake Superior but in the woods rather than on the beach. Basically we just thought they were neat and thought it would be fun to see if we could ID them. I've worked on it but I am just uncertain! 1 flic.kr/p/XgHbpi2 flic.kr/p/YdSNGJ3 flic.kr/p/YfwpyU3 flic.kr/p/YdW3PA3 flic.kr/p/YdW3xU4 flic.kr/p/Yi4UGi and this one I found today actually under my deck (south central WI) sitting next to an arrowhead! Thanks in advance and I look forward to learning from you all! I've been lurking for a few days trying to figure it out on my own!

Welcome from Ohio! Fire? We only know of rain and snow here! Whoa now, no need to throw around cuss words like "Snow" Hmm. I suspect thats a task better handled by the bearded one in the profile pic I mean..I'm game to try but I may end up single and homeless if I succeed? Haha

We always talk about moving to the mountains somewhere and then the fires happen and we thank our lucky stars to be in Wisconsin. Worst we get is the occasional Tornado. I'm sorry for all of you dealing with the fires!!
Thanks for the welcome!!

Hi all! Total newbie popping in from WI. I've had an interest in rocks forever but kicked it up a notch while spending a rainy day during vacation on the beaches of Lake Superior (Wi Side). I've been working on ID's for a few days but being a newbie I think I've just put more doubts in my mind haha! I'll work on photos for you more experienced lovelies later on
