I think my brain might actually explode next time I read an "I picked up a bucket of old rocks from some guy and found [insert name of incredibly rare, valuable and extraordinary material] in it" post
What a find. Congrats!

Those look fantastic. I keep going back and forth between the wonderstone and prairie agate, I just can't pick a favorite. Top notch quotes too!

1st attempt at a cab. Cutting it close here, but I got it done . Apache Creek agate I thought it definitely looked a little icy in there Forgot to get a pic of the slab, but this is the end cut

If anyone's been out there, I was hoping to get some clarification on the directions. I was looking at taking a shot at this location this weekend with my son to hunt agate, but the guide books and Google maps don't agree.
Both the Gem Trails and Rockhounding NM books give directions to Lee Russell Canyon / Forest Road 49 as 4.9 miles from Apache Creek with a gate at the roadside. The sat pictures show that gate, but it looks like a just short spur road, not a several mile long road that supposedly leads up to Turkey Flats. What's actually labled on the map as Lee Russell Canyon and FR49 is a mile farther up the highway with an ungated entrance to a youth ranch and some homes.
Can anyone clear this up for me? Is there any access to FR 49?
Appreciate the help. Please feel free to PM me if you know the area

That is perfect.... but can it be cabbed?? I doubt it.
Iβve been busy at work - LOVE the turtle, but as was stated above it probably wonβt qualify as a cabochon for this contest. Youβre welcome to have another try, for sure! Iβm still glad you found the turtle. ETA: From the rules link in the OP - βThe shape needs to be simple enough to create with wheels, i.e. a cabochon, not intarsia.β I have no objections to this being DQ'd if it doesn't fit the stated rules. Just having some fun. I think it would be doable with a dremel... probably need to make the neck thicker in real life to avoid breaking, but I didn't feel like spending the time just to edit the outline.

Spectacular! Looks like it's melted. Adrian That's what I was seeing too, the way it is oriented. Or maybe hanging vines/moss in a spooky woods. Amazing piece!
