Johnson Brothers does have cheap geysers. I don't know if they're any good or not. Are you sure you need wheels? Thanks. Pretty sure, but I suppose I could try it. At least some of them need replaced, they're pretty smooth...

I didn't congratulate you enough in my first reply. I'm really stoked that you finally got a cabbing machine!! I'm super happy for you my friend!!

Congrats, miket! What a nice thing for your kids to do (you deserve it). The wheels on that machine do not look bad to me at all. Resin wheels smooth out after some use. I agree with Jason - give them a try before you replace them. If the wheels are wearing out, you will see the (usually) grey part of the wheel coming through the colored resin parts. They can still be used until you get replacements. It won't hurt a stone.

I was pretty surprised and happy Robin! They're always doing nice stuff, they're pretty good kids. I think I will give them a shot when I get time. ๐

Just have to chime in that I have 2 Super Nova Wheels (1200 & 300) from Johnson Brothers & I really like them.
They are not "resurfaced wheels" but purchased new.
I will say that they look very different than the Kingsley North wheels I started with (much more bumpy looking), but they work great & I never looked back.
miket, you just need a "clean out" party - get the kids to help :-)

These are the wheels on the machine I bought a few weeks ago. I don't know how but they're still working fine. From the pic yours look a lot better than these! I do need to replace the 280. It just takes too much time as that wheel is really worn. The rest of the soft wheels. I can definitely tell the difference on the outside edge where the original owner wasn't grinding, but they're working well enough. I see no reason to change them at this point. That's awesome that your kids did that!

Here are pics of my wheels. The closeup is of the 600. The surfaces do have cracks... No...that's not blood in the pan!! LOL

I can still see diamonds on your wheels, rockbrain, I'll take a closer look this morning. Thanks! jasoninsd, are you sure that's not blood? It seems to figure that you would keep grinding if it were...๐

Played around a little with the machine this morning. I just held the cab with my fingers and dipped it in water, not sure if I have the right kind of polish- I can't remember what it is exactly at the moment. I think I'll be ok with the wheels for now, this was a practice stone that will probably go in the trash since it's so badly fractured. I like it WAY better. Faster and best of all no dust! ๐

miket here's what a worn wheel looks like: I forgot to get a picture, thanks for showing me though. I think the one I would replace first is the 80, it seems to be the worst.

Well, I'm glad you chimed in. I have never heard bad- but I haven't used them myself. Was it that the nibs were too high? I didn't know what to call them but nibs works haha. Yes it was quite the negative experience for someone used to using Nova brand which is relatively smooth and easily broken in.

I've used both new and resurfaced JB soft wheel for several years and like them a lot. But I've never run into that problem. Is it something recent?

It was a lot longer ago than I remembered but I found the review I did on it at the time in 2014 lol forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/68284/johnson-brothers-lapidary-reviewLiterally pieces of what felt like a hard plastic coating started flying off of it so I returned it and got my money back. Maybe (hopefully) they do it differently now.

Maybe (hopefully) they do it differently now. If my wheels are an example, they do. Haven't had any issues breaking them in -- need to use a discard agate for a few minutes to take the "curse" off new ones but they don't require any more effort than Novas IMO. The only major difference I've noticed is new ones are harder than Novas. Don't yield as well to the curvature of cabs.
