I say in progress because I still don't have the shine I'm looking for- especially on the velvet obsidian... Thanks for the look!

Nice cabs. What’s the materials? I don’t cab much for obsidian, but a lil trick I was told and have used, was to spend some time on the 1500 grit wheel before final polish. Really helped my cabs get a high gloss polish.

Really helped my cabs get a high gloss polish. Thanks! As far as the material goes, I only know the obsidian. The others came from slabs that I picked up at a rock swap. I really like the cab with the copper in it but the picture doesn't do it justice- I'll try to get a video. hummingbirdstones knows what the bottom right cab with the gold is, again, not a great picture. Super soft, and Robin warned me about how messy it is and she was correct! The green diamond-shaped cab is also fairly soft but not as soft as the other.

Something has to be going on with one of the wheels. The obsidian should be polishing very well. The wheels look worn enough to slay that obsidian...

Did you get an Optivisor yet? Not yet. Well hell's bells! I'm tellin' ya. I would never get past the 600 without the Optivisor. I can't see the scratches with my eyes alone. But when I've got my reading glasses and Optivisor on, I can see the scratches...

I might be totally wrong brother...but you'd be surprised at what you can see with magnification like that.

miket the gold and black stone is called Apache Gold. I have to agree with Jason on the Optivisors. You really need to be able to see the scratches. I can't be without them when I'm cabbing. I'd like to ask you to post close-ups of each of the wheels on your machine. I want to see if we can spot anything with any of the wheels that might be causing the problem.

I'll try to get some pictures of the wheels tomorrow, I appreciate the help.

I'm spending a lot of time on the last few wheels to try and get the scratches. Too late, Mike. The cab has to be flawless coming off the 280 wheel. That’s why you need a 10x loupe or the Optivisor. After that, you can just about run through the rest of the wheels with your eyes closed.

Any suggestions for a reasonable set of optivisors- or another brand? Thanks

Your blue (1200) wheel definitely needs to be replaced, Mike. You can see the bare material right there. If the rest of the wheel is that bad, it may be at least part of the problem. ETA: Hard to tell on the other wheels. There's too much rock snot on them!
