As my African American buddy says, "You a trip" Jason. #3 down is my favorite. It frames the jewel clean then throws an ornate abstract side weight to the top and side. The contrast adds interest and is eye catching. If I had to pick a fav, that would be mine. The intricate glass work combined with a mostly simple wrap style.

The contrast adds interest and is eye catching. Well...I've found out more and more recently I'm definitely more prone to tripping as time goes on! LOL That's really interesting that one is your favorite. I would not have expected that. I'm very glad to hear feedback like this...as this one was probably my least favorite wrap. It's not that I don't like it...I do...I was almost thinking the simplicity was TOO simple. So, I'm glad to hear that it truly wasn't. Hard to argue the merits of this wrap since both of you are elevating its status! I totally get what you two are seeing...and I will definitely try to do more like this (not ALL...but more!). I need to figure out some other things to do with all the wires coming out at the bail...that's the main reason I do a lot of hoohah with the wires...I don't know how to "minimalize" it! LOL - I guess I need to start perusing the old wire-wrapping threads again to get some more ideas on what to do with the wires...

Maybe it's time to use a dop stick? Robin: USE A DOP! Me: I always do!! If you're using a dop, how the heck are you grinding your finger?

Robin: USE A DOP! Me: I always do!! If you're using a dop, how the heck are you grinding your finger? I've actually done it when I was final shaping the preform...when it wasn't on dop yet. I just thought the gif was funny. LOL I run the preforms on the 220 after I've cut and shaped them on the trim saw. This removes the cut marks from the saw blade and gets me right to my stencil line. I really can't do this part while it's on dop because I draw my girdle line on after I've done the final shaping on the 220. I don't like drawing the girdle line on after it's been put on dop. If I were to get a cab rest - which is on my "to get" list...it would help out tremendously...from my understanding. Plus, I wouldn't be as likely to grind my finger! LOL (Oh, who am I kidding...I'd find another way to grind my finger! LOL)

Apologies to Jean if she also commented on this.

The stone(glass) being so busy is a good candidate for a simple wrap. That's just an opinion, we all vary. Ornate verses simple seems to vary with the individual.
I noticed my simple pits sell as good or better than ornate units. Well that suits me just fine, it is so much quicker/easier to build simple and this is very important. May not work that way with jewelry...
PS Appeal to the majority opinion lol !

I'm definitely all for "simpler" if it's appealing to others...which it definitely seems to be! Less time and effort (not in a bad way...just in a "that's what it is way") is obviously easier!! When are they going to invent coffee that improves memory and kills pain ? I don't know...but it's 44 degrees here today...which is 50+ degrees colder than what it has been...so I'm going to make a second pot of coffee now just to hold the cup and keep my hands warm! LOL *Of course if you put a Ginkgo Biloba pill and a shot of whisky in the coffee it should have all your bases covered! LOL

I get asked by friends and associates "Why don't you add this or that."; they seem mistified when told it adds so much more work. As if added labor is no big deal, bull, added labor is NOT good. If the majority seems to like simple then simple it is ! It seems much of the world out there is looking for simple or organic(if that's what that means). It makes sense in an ever complicating world.
It was 46F this morning, up to 80F by 2pm. But 35% humidity and no rain for 3 weeks with lots of wind. This time of year has been killing old trees in the past few years because of prolonged fall dyness. We have too many big trees for them to start dying !
I like that word - Ginko Biloba. But don't call your wife a Gingko Biloba. My wife rides with extra flesh, she thinks I'm shedding light on that fact when called that. "It's just a tree honey !" lol. No matter, she has already cast her sentence of punishment.

Late to the party- story of my life. LOL!
jamesp's glass is divine! You did an excellent job on all of these, but I know that the glass is more difficult to wrap.

I'm going to guess because it's more difficult to maintain control of the cab because it's slicker than other stones?

I don't know how many times one has slipped out and gone flying when I was trying to finish the wrap. Doh!

It's slippery. I don't know how many times one has slipped out and gone flying when I was trying to finish the wrap. Doh! I don't know how many times I had to slam my legs together to try and keep these cabs from hitting the floor after they slipped out of my hands! LOL When I was a real little kid, I remember watching a cartoon episode of The Lone Ranger...not the live action - that was before my time (although I've seen many episodes). The "bad guy" had decided to dress up like a woman and was wearing a dress. The Lone Ranger tossed a silver bullet into the "ladies" lap. The bad guy immediately slammed his legs together to "catch" the bullet with his lap. The jig was up. The Lone Ranger knew it was a guy. He explained that a woman would have kept her legs "as is" knowing her dress would catch the bullet...but a guy would be in the habit of putting his legs together in order to catch it. Ever since seeing that as a little kid, every time I "catch" something in my lap, I swear I think of that episode! LOL
