I love Sodalite! Your tumbled ones are super nice. I had two pounds from rockshed that I haven't worked on yet. Did you start with 60/90 or finer grits?

electrocutusIf you have one of those expensive UV lights I think its a 365 nonometer, I'm probably wrong on that number, anyway back to my thought. I have a few pieces that I got out west that glows like a hot ember under that UV light.

I used a 365 flashlight to light them up. Thanks for the tip.

Great job on the sodalite. It can be tricky, and you managed it well.

Because of the color or handability (another word I made up). markb Definitely both...the color and "handability"! From a cabbing perspective, it's relatively easy to work if you don't rush things. It doesn't like the 80 grit wheel as it can cause it to get chippy. However, it's soft enough that the 220 wheel cuts through it like a hot knife through butter. It polishes up exceptionally well. The white/gray areas don't polish as well usually...but if you get a dark blue piece of Sodalite, it's absolutely brilliant after polish.

Looks good. What was the time (days) that you used for each stage? Thanks wolverine . Here's my timeline. 69/90 SiC - 9 days 280 Sic - 8 days (with ceramic media to make up the volume grinding loss) 500 SiC - 8 days w/ ceramic media overnight cleanup with Borax (~12 hours) AO polish and Borax - 7 days (with ceramic media) Borax clean/burnish - 24 hours My general goal was 7 days for each stage, but I got distracted by other house stuff :-) It was the first time that I added Borax with my AO polish stage after reading about it here. I don't know if it made any difference but I am happy with the results.

By chance do/did you attend UofM in Michigan? Ha!! Speaking of rocks, I am dumber than a box of rocks! They wouldn't have me. The only business I have with the U of M is watching the football games on Saturdays. I use to go to some games as well but I am over that scene now.

That sounds liks a slight insult to the box of rocks :-) :-)
