I've picked up these oddball rocks for years now. You know, they look like something.....and they feel so good in the hand. Ergonomically correct, you know? LOL The problem is, rocks can look like ANYTHING. Thanks for your help! If rocks #1 are nothing, I will keep them as bowls. If rock #2 is nothing, I will hang onto it in case i need to hammer something. But the others will be released back into the wild if they are nothing. Rocks #1 - I keep finding these - I have a couple more somewhere...perfectly spherical indentions Rock #2 front Rock#2 back Rock #3 left face Rock #3 underside Rock #4 right face Rock #4 front Rock #4 back

those spherical ones sure seems like the hollow was ground from decades of grain milling. and carried from place to place if so- and not sure how one knows for certain- either way! its way cool unique find and if the hockey stick are naturally formed what a boon! for an ancient to find a intelligent design hammer they had to love it when that happens ! Gods smiled on us

Cool finds. 1 and 2 next to each other remind me of a hip ball and socket. I doubt that is what they are, but one never knows.

I'm tagging mjflinty our resident archaeologist for some input.

do you know what type of rock the hollows are ? it looks volcanic with vesicular texture do ya know where they were found? that just the type of rock the ancients favored for their metate mills at least the southwest indigenous peoples do ya know where they were found? as side note below is a link to intelligent designed hoe I found at Hohokam site At least= I don’t think it was man made Butte it might have been I can’t imagine those canal diggers not valuing it- if found the full story is in the link forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/96237/mohs-theme-daza-gneiss?page=6Ed

Thanks, RickB - I appreciate the referral! Yes, @mohs , I should have included that info. These were all found in southeast Missouri, the hammer shaped one looks like limestone, and all the rest are my best friend, chert. (LOL, there is a lot of chert here.) That hoe sounds interesting - I'll check that out!

We're all limestone and chert where I live here in Texas too. I'd say those are all natural stones and unworked. The last one looks closest to a worked piece but then chert tends to break naturally with conchoidal fracture so that could just have a couple breaks due to natural collisions with other rocks.

I think that's the general consensus - but it's good to know! I"m not sure why I hadn't posted these rocks before to find out whether they are artifacts, but better late than never, I guess!

I don't see any artifacts. No signs of use or chipping. They are geofacts, stones that have been weathered / eroded by natural processes.
All the best, Michael
