Hey Ed mohs , just came upon this thread, great seeing pictures of where you hound/hike and your commentary. I haven't been to the specimens page before, there are so many other subjects to follow. Anyhow it was good following along with your adventures. My tumbling/cutting is done for the year, butte but I hear that spring is just around the corner!

Couple weeks ago I took the light rail, and went downtown So I’m strolling along -doing pretty good -I guess. Get to the light rail platform I’m reading a historical placard Its a very nice informative display All about history of Phoenix This particular display was about Luhrs Tower The historical placard had a map. Showing different locations where the Lurhs Family did their buildings. I kept looking at this map Grumbling, mumbling. Acting all agitated. Normal for downtown So I was surprised when someone noticed! A fellow that was sitting close by, minding his own business, reading a Gresham novel, waiting for the train says: Are you all right? I said: no -I’m not Then I asked him if he knows Phoenix well? He said: yes Well then,,, please come over here, and take look at this map. Its laid out wrong, They got the directions of the streets all screwy. He looked at it and said 'your right'! imagine that ha ha Then I told him: I going to escalate this & get it corrected. There is enough misinformation in this world. He said: well… that will take an act of congress!. We laughed & got on the light rail together. Arriving at my destination I told him- really enjoyed our chat and, more importantly, talking to some who knows something … Stay tuned for Part 2 forthwith… ,os;ty

So I did escalate it. Happy to report it didn’t quite take an act of Congress A few e-mails, and phone calls I finally connected with a live person Who took my ramblings seriously They sent me this email From: Finnerty, MB Sent: Tuesday, December 14, 2021 7:44 AM To: wil2lve@yahoo.com Cc: Hoffman, Brittany Subject: Light Rail Historic Signage Info 1st Ave/Jefferson Dear Mr. Mohs, Thanks so much for your email regarding the Phoenix historic signage on the 1st Ave/Jefferson platform and I’m so sorry that there’s an error in the sign. Just to give you some background on how all of our historic panels are made: Valley Metro’s graphics group designs the panels based on photos and text provided by the cities (in this case, City of Phoenix Office of Historic Preservation). Of course it goes through lots of editing by everyone involved, so it’s frustrating to see that something was missed. I will forward your email to someone at the Phoenix office for their response and can put a request for our Maintenance group to send out for a replacement. Unfortunately, the signs are fairly expensive to replace and this process might take quite a while. We are working on including a section on our Valley Metro website devoted to the historic panels and when that happens, we can certainly point out the issue there as well. In the meantime, great job in spotting it! We love the signs and are happy to know that our riders are enjoying them as well. Please contact me if you would like to discuss this further. Thanks again, MB

The muse as not been amusing as of late I climbed the butte, part of my therapy, to take the sunset, Figured it wouldn’t be to great. A dead haze is in valley, and not quite the right type of clouds Butte it is the solstice no? Nonetheless this is what I captured. The good part is I meant a young family at the top of the hill. There were vacationing from oversea . I gave them the whole Hohokam lay out of the land They really appreciated that !

On New Years Day Instead of moving forward I took a journey into the past I visited a Hohokam defensive fortification by 7 Springs called Sears Kay Ruins a remarkable location & place look forward to rerun visit This is called the Mystery Room Archaeologist named it that because Of the rounded corners All the other structures, of which there are about 40 rooms, Are constructed with square corners. That black quartzite rock is massive Tons of it was moved What a good rock I found those pottery shards above Butte my prizes find was this tool Pretty sure it natural and NOT knapped But man would the hoho's have liked to stumbled upon this natural freebie ! Maybe they did? It perfectly shaped for a trench hoeing 3” X 7” Finely formed concaved on the inside length & that 12 degree beveled top at the cutting edge really does it hard sedimentary metamorphic quartz I feel bad now and, wonder if, I broke the antiquity act By bring this tool home ? I probably return it … so thanks for the comments….

I cracked this rock in the Salt Thought the mineral mottle was interesting res.cloudinary.com/rock-n-hearts-inc/image/upload/v1642194389/salt8cracked_2.jpgSome sort of sedimentary that was in metamorphose mineralize contact zone hornblende , sulfide , cinnabar Anyway I really liked it shaped / smooth a piece Not to thrilled with the shape or the color mostly Butte that 2 tone shade design kind of grows on mohs So I had to try agrin! Try to hack off a slab w/ the 3 primary colors Black, yellow, red got it not the most thrilling butte I really appreciate ya stopping in to look at mohs leaverite labors

Hi all cracked this salt river verde rock & brought a chunk home to polish I saw the green vein Thought maybe it silicified -like jasper Butte it morhz of a highly pressurized green silt substance hacked off a slab off with the workforce & I do mean hacked got a piece slabbed-- I could work but it snapped in the grind forgot that I can fix broken hearts & epoxy the pieces back 2gather Instead tried to reshape the broken piece that turned out to be to difficult might be able to find the massive remaining rock I left behind - try agrin Did get a piece cut off the horneblende w/ rose quartz inclusions & its working up fine-- on the grind
