In the never-ending attempt to organize my rocks in the shop I came across maybe several hundred preforms a few months ago. I have no idea why I cut so many; maybe I was waiting for a belt or something and was in rock withdrawals. At any rate, a contest might be fun! These are great for beginners or tumblers, and there are a few great cabs-to-be in there, many that are so-so, and a few duds but still great practice. Mostly "old stock," that is I cut them at least ten years ago and probably had them longer than that. Agates, jaspers, obsidian, rhyolite, common opal and a lot of who knows what. Some are basic cut cabs, some look like I pulled "cab wanna-bes" out of the tumbler, and some look like a cab in progress broke and I thought it worth reshaping. Since I've got enough for a few contests if anyone is interested, the first contest will be who thinks of the best contest for the second one. 1st place will get at least 25, second twenty, and third 10, and I will take them out randomly. The only caveat is that if you don't like what you get, please give them to someone who can use them. I'll keep the contest open two weeks since we are close to the holidays and people are busy.  |

When I opened this thread and started reading and my eyes saw half of the photo out of my periphery, I just assumed the first contest was going to be guess the number of preforms.🤓

My suggestion would be # of inches of snow in your yard at the time contest ends.
Or, the temperature in your yard then.

This is really great of you Susan! I ran a preform giveaway once. I did "guess the number of preforms", but it ended up being a bit easy, I think. Guessing mileages is always a challenge, but I don't know what parameters you would use. |

How about guessing how many ovals are actually traced on the preforms ?
Only problem with the idea if YOU have to look through them all & count

Some great responses, but I'm going to add a clue or two--my "organizing" of the shop continues in bits and pieces as weather and my cold tolerance permits. I'm leaning against guessing weight and guessing number since I would like to be able to continue adding "finds" as contests progress. Patty's suggestion of number of drawn ovals would be doable since I don't do very many ovals; something along those lines would work since I can add anything that doesn't have an oval drawn on it.

Start with Ovals - someone has to guess #
Then how about squares,
then teardrops,
then circles,
then free forms,
and THEN nothing drawn on it at all.
