I've seen a few of his auctions, but never went to his shop till now. If you have deep pockets, you can build your collection there. He's got Morrisonite and Ocean Jasper collector slabs that will make you drool.
So, here's an interesting question-- If you could buy one of those high end slabs, would you cut it up for cabs?
ETA I would not. I had to think about it and come back. I have slabs that would make beautiful cabs, but I can't bring myself to cutting them. And seeing the prices on that OJ makes it even tougher to cut. They are worth more as specimens, I guess. That was the whole point for the movement to preserve. That's driving up cab prices, too. I maybe, might cut one of mine.

Hell no! You could never make cabs that would be as beautiful as the whole piece together. That's why I have my "too pretty to cut" drawers full of slabs. Our motto is we can't cut it until we find one that's prettier.

Yeah...I'm in agreement with the both of you. I wouldn't want to break any of those into "parts"! I'm not really a specimen kinda guy...but sometimes you gotta know when to say when!

I'll take some pics of them tomorrow. There's not huge pieces like Aaron Reed's, but they're nice. I have some not as nice stuff that we've picked up over the years, mostly in Quartzsite that I cut sometimes. I'm still loath to cut even the lesser grade ones because it's hard to find now. LOL!

We have eight saws, and I'd get a lot more than my hand smacked if one of those "accidentaly" wound up on a saw.

rockjunquie - We were looking at the big chunk of OJ rough on that guy's site last week. I think he dropped the price. Must've been just for you!
We recently "rediscovered" the last two untouched pieces of OJ rough we have. A visitor here wanted to buy them when he saw them. After he left I looked online to see what uncut OJ rough might be available for. The piece in that link you posted was one of two I found. That was it... .

Yeah, it has skyrocketed! I feel bad for what I have sold! LOL! Gotta laugh to keep from crying.

A coincidence: it was just this morning that I discovered some of his listings on eBay — at the bottom of a low-to-high price sort, of course. I reached for my wallet but it ran shrieking away from me.

I'd even consider buying some of his specimens for display, but I have other priorities right now. Considering future (anticipated) spending I'll have to pass...as much as I'd like to jump in.

I’ll admit, there are some nice pieces in there, however those prices are completely asinine.

I had a chuckle knowing what’s sitting out in the rock garden or even worse, the scrap pile.

Man those Wingate are awfully tempting. If he gets those prices and I'm wouldn't be surprised if he didnt, good for him/her.

The appeal of some of those polished slabs baffles me. They would not even make my cabinet. The Morrisonite pieces come to mind, they are ok but in the end they are just rocks. I suppose my eye for such things is just not refined enough. I will take a polished multi-color Brazilian slab or maybe a West Texas Bouquet half, knowing I would never be able to sell them for those kind of prices.
Eye of the beholder, and just how much money is one willing to spend on a "Rock"!!
