OJ slabs upated 1-25-24

A couple are certainly in the 1000 dollar range. When it first hit the market, I bought quite a bit, but I didn't cab then. I picked up cheap cabs and used them all in jewelry I sold. I did pick up a few slabs, though. You got to get lucky now to find something nice and reasonable. I considered the 225 reasonable.

Here are some old stock slabs and a couple of cabs I bought back when OJ was available. As always, an overstretched pocketbook prevented me from buying more, I immediately saw it as a classic material and hoped it wouldn't be mined out as quickly as it was.

The red marks on the slabs show fractures. I had no idea the stuff was as expensive as it is now. I cabbed and sold it far too cheaply for a long time but now I hoard my remaining stock because, as rockjunquie says, it's an investment.

Ocean Jasper is amazing. I can't seem to get enough of it.

The good stuff is very difficult to find and even more expensive to acquire.

I especially love the 'older' pieces with the orange/green combo and visible orbs in a clear-ish 'matrix'.

I have to disagree a bit. Maybe we should start another thread, but gel Sugilite, pretty and expensive as it is, isn't the only pricey type. Most of the research I've done on price seems to focus on dark purple-to-blue (with Richterite) as being very desirable. I hear a lot about Sugilite value but can't seem to locate much substantive info to back it up.

I have a chunk of sugilite I’d like to know what the suckers worth. If anyone has some insight

The OJ slabs on this thread are mind blowing! It really puts to shame the majority of "OJ" being sold nowadays. I remember seeing those slabs being posted last year and it inspired me to seek out some OJ. Then I realized how much being sold now is pretty low grade stuff in comparison.

For what it's worth regarding Sugilite pricing. I was briefly looking at some at the Quartzsite Pow wow last week, until I asked the dealer what their price was... They said $20-$25 a gram, I promptly walked away lol. I know nothing about what constitutes quality but this stuff looked pretty good. I opted instead to buy a variety of turquoise and variscite for $0.25-$1 a gram lol.
