I use stellar lubricants, a lapidary oil. "Mineral oil" is often confused as something other than petroleum, but it comes from the same separating and refining process that gives us thick tarlike gear oils and extremely thin kerosene or gasoline. Mineral oil is merely a trade name, no minerals involved in it's production, just a highly refined oil. At the same viscosity, tech grade (veterinary and cosmetics), food grade, and medical grade are identical. The grading and cost differences are due to the testing and certifications and their cost. Stellar is stellar Snd it smells good

San Juan Ranch Santa Cruz mineral oil light for horses is about $70 for 4 gallons. Check shipping! I use this oil in my 14" saw with no problems. I also ventilate well for health reasons so as not to breath the mist into my lungs. I use this oil in my trim saw because it has less odor and is an easy cleanup.

I also use the horse laxative when I’ve had lots of dairy and meat. Straight from the saw. Works wonders.

OK. I'm back on this topic again. Had to clean out my saw and I've stretched the little bit of oil I had as far as it'll go. The oil I previously had was a proprietary blend from a rock shop. It has very little odor, fairly thin. Price has doubled since I bought it last. So.... back to deciding... mineral oil/horse laxative, food grade mineral oil, Bear Naked which says it's virgin white mineral oil, the orange scented Stellars (seems they don't have the non scented anymore), or Highland Parks Cool Cut. My saw is a gravity/drop style and it has one of those pumps that sits in the oil and spins and basically throws the oil up a tube to the top of the blade, so it can't be too thick. My concern is really with the type of pump I have and it being able to throw the oil. I'm planning to top it off with a little mineral oil just to get back up and running again and then see about buying a large quantity of something. Anyone have any changes to their thoughts since last year? Thank you! Rockoonz realrockhound automaton25 AzRockGeek HankRocks stefan Peruano rockbrain FossilmanQuailRiverfencejumpervictor1941

Not really. I've got the HP a couple of times. I decided to try the Stellar because I keep hearing good things about it and it's less money then the HP. I've only used horse laxative in my 24 and it worked great. I have a bunch of used vacuum pump oil that's very clean. I plan on using it in the 24. All of them seem fairly light to me.

The last several batches of oil I bought came from Mr catmandewe , but I am fortunate enough to do a pick up at his booth in Q. Maybe Tony can help you out, not sure if he is able to ship oil or not.

Still using Santa Cruz and no real reason to change. I can order 8 gallons and it's on my front porch the next day. And shipping is free for over $70.

khara the bear naked is also sold by stellar. If you do FB look up stellar and/or kevin Kessler. He sometimes does deliveries to rock shops on I5, you may be able to get some that way and save on shipping. rockbrain vacuum pump oil viscosity cSt @ 40 C is 65, saw oil should be under 15, stellar is 12. It is equivalent to 20W engine oil, way too thick.

Rockoonz thanks for the info. Even if it does suck! The oil I've been using is a little lighter than that, but sounds like it's still way too heavy. I've got multiple containers of this stuff sitting around too .

I'm planning to top it off with a little mineral oil just to get back up and running again and then see about buying a large quantity of something. Anyone have any changes to their thoughts since last year? Thank you! I use Citgo's "Duoprime 90" mineral oil (I believe now sold as CITGO Clarion 90). It is a food grade mineral oil which is commonly used to lubricate machinery in the food processing industries. I have been using it for many years in saws ranging in size from 10" to 20" and am very satisfied with it. When dirty it can be filtered and reused many times over. Any commercial/industrial petroleum products supplier that distributes CITGO's products should be able to get it for you. The distributor I get it from sales it in both 5 gallon and 55 gallon drums. Prices varied greatly from one distributor to another so I had to do a little shopping around to get the best price. Found a distributor 80 miles away from me that would deliver for only a modest fuel surcharge. www.docs.citgo.com/msds_pi/669348001.pdf
