What's the Porcelain Jasper type?
If it's Exotica (aka Sci-Fi Jasper), there are certain areas of that material that will NOT shine for me at all...no matter what! There are areas of that material (it's a cream colored area) that take a HIGH shine...but not the other areas.

Have you tried buffing the stone with a small amount of Zam?

porcelain jasper (not a true jasper) is softer than mohs 7 (i think it is like a 5 or so??). Probably a dry polish is the best way to get a good shine

Did somebody change jasper nomenclature? Porcelain jasper used to be used to describe jaspers that took an incredible polish like Willow Creek and Morrisonite.

If I'm binge watching Star Wars, then it's Sci-Fi Jasper. If I have Cinemax on, I have to call it Exotica! LOL

I have both Porcelain and Sci-Fi, and as far as I can tell they are the same stuff.
Rock shed list it as 6.5-7 harness.
I have a lot of smaller pieces so hand polishing is out of the question.

Probably a dry polish is the best way to get a good shine We have a jasper in Northern Nevada that is considered a porcelain jasper that is extremely hard and dense. It has a natural high polish when you find it and it is very heavy for its size due to the high density.

I will run a 1000 AO stage and finish with a dry polish and report the results.

The Mexican "porcelain" is pretty but just a trade name, nothing like the ultra hard true porcelain jaspers. I think maybe a lot of those were "fired" by subsequent volcanic activity after they formed, the reason for the fine grain and hardness, but my general geological "knowledge" is mostly stuff I think I remember other people saying, so...

Sometimes I like a matt finish. Exotica and mookaite are two that I'm willing to accept less than lustrous.

I broke up an old porcelain basement sink into tumble size pieces. I call it NY porcelain jasper. I'll report back with my findings ...

A friend says go to 50,000 diamond belt at slow speed. but it is variable. Yeah, I've been using Linde A on a leather disc, gotta get myself a 50K diamond belt. I have had trouble with the lemon chrysoprase undercutting on the leather, I'm sure a 50K diamond belt would cure that too. I'm refurbishing another Raytech GSP-8 (I have two) to mount up some wheels I might use for odd jobs on occasion without having to change wheels or belts on other grinder/polishers I use.

Washed down porcelain jasper from Mexico in S Texas is a flip of the coin. Some goes w matte, some will wet shine. Same story for many different jaspers from S Texas. A good vibe like a Lot-O will shine the softer up.

I just got this in the mail from an Etsy seller. It looks like left over slabbing pieces but still, the pattern is beautiful! I can’t wait until I have a barrel free next week so I can get started. Next time I get some of this amazing rock I will go to a better source for material. I’ve heard many times that the rock shed is good, so I think that’s where my next order will be from.
