Yes, I've seen that in one other Gold sheen piece.

Getting down to the last couple of weeks. Weather turned to crap, a wheel is contaminated and I've had some personal stuff to deal with. We are leaving for Cali to see the granddaughter ❤️ we will see if we can get it done

I’ve been sent out of town on business trip and have other projects that came up. Essentially in same boat. See if I can’t get something busted out. Know what I’d like to do. It’s just finding time

So I finally started marking out my cab(s) last night. Needed to make templates first as I still didn't have any. Anyway this piece of obsidian I have is awesome. Now I want to find more and previously obsidian wasn't really much of a favorite of mine. I want 3 different cabs in the same area. And once I finally decide I'm not sure I'll be able to get pictures that do it justice. This material I think is basically mahogany obsidian. But the slab I have has just a couple spots of mahogany and is otherwise very transparent with deep black ribbons running through it. It made me start looking for a database on all the varieties of obsidian. I've found a number of articles and videos showing many varieties but I don't think they are complete because my ribbon type isn't shown. I'm hoping I can cut it well and do it justice. Edit: I'm thinking maybe(?) it's going to be Triple or Tri-Flow Obsidian, but my final piece might not have much of the mahogany in it. Edit x2: BTW, most of the good photos I'm finding online of the Tri-Flow are from lapidarycentral

Well since it's time for excuses to fly I might as well recycle my usual excuse with an obsidian shine and toss it into the mix As my schedule looks right now I do not have a single day off until the end of the month. Most days I'm doubled up with work which makes for sun up to sun down work. I also don't have any decent obsidian. I have a bag of 1 to 2 inch chunks of Napa glass that I collected in a newly tilled vineyard near Calistoga but as far as I can see it takes boring black obsidian to a whole lower level of dull gray haha. One of these days I plan on giving it away to some brave soul or tossing it into a tumbler.

Glad our photos helped too!

Since no one else has been posting, just to stir the embers a lil, here's a early sneak peak of what i'm working on. Still needs lots of work. But should have something nice produced by this weekend.

Thanks. It’s also a complete pain in the arse to work. To even get the fire to show well, you need to take it right down to the layer. I’m talking like mm’s or less. The comes the challenge of following the wavy ass fire bar 😂

They are coming from the 3000 wheel. It’s not impregnating in the wheels either. It’s just the wheel itself

Looks great off the wheels, can’t see scratches. Then when I take pics they show out of nowhere

So this has been a huge learning curve. Probably dumb of me to try and work a big fire bar for the contest, but I always love a challenge. Why I enjoy these contests so much.

realrockhound just stirring the embers? I would say you gave the fire pit a good kick and we all get to watch the sparks fly haha. Gorgeous material and cab in the works, I can't wait to see it finished.
