Great job on the June Challenge! The next challenge, should you choose to accept it, comes from Susan susand24224 "Wrap a "non-cab." This can be a tumbled stone, a seashell, whatever you choose. Just not a standard cab." So there you have it. This should be fun. I already have something in mind.
Remember this is only a challenge to get your muse flowing and not a competition- everyone is a winner.

Great challenge Susan. I have this bowl of my tumbled rocks, that just look like they could be wrapped- maybe. Guess I have to find out now

4th of July Wrap Tumble Wrap
It was too stinkin' hot to BBQ, so I took the afternoon off to play in the air conditioned studio .
No idea what kind of stone it is, one out of my random tumble mixes, that got set aside, since it looked wrap able.
I forgot to take a before wrapping photo, so include side photos so you can see one side is thick, one quite thin, the whole stone is kind of wavy.
I was gifted some fancy wire and wanted to give it a try.
The texturing on the wire made it stiff, so I had to anneal it.
I wasn't thinking quite straight (or soon enough anyway), as I should have just annealed the fancy wire ahead of time, but by the time I realized I needed to, I already had the binding on.
So the plus was when I annealed the whole border, I was able to conform the wire nicely to the irregular stone. On the negative, it sure made making the bail with really soft wires a bit tricky !
But everything got solved in the tumbler in the end .
I found out that LOS lump does go bad- but I had some black patina that gave it a slight antiqued look.
I'm happy the way it came out, mostly . I hadn't planned it, but I think it's actually reversible - the back looks as good as the front to wear - so it's a 2 for 1 deal !
Front :
Back :
Thanks for the challenge- it was fun & relatively easy for a change (must have been the AC) .

liveoak Yes, definitely reversible! I’d probably wear the back in front. I’ve thought about trying to do a reversible wrap but it seems hard to make the back of the bail look good. You did a good job with it even if that wasn’t your initial intent!👍

I love it! Thanks for sharing the progress as well. I particularly like the side view and how creative you got to hold the stone in. Finally, AC definitely contributes to better wraps!

Great job on the wrap Patty! Nailed it. Thanks Diane. A productive afternoon for a change ! liveoak Yes, definitely reversible! I’d probably wear the back in front. What's funny, is that Tom picked up the pendant & assumed the back was the front & that's when I realized it was reversible.
So I'm feeling extra good that it worked- although I'll probably never be able to do it again, especially if I try to plan it ! I love it! Thanks for sharing the progress as well. I particularly like the side view and how creative you got to hold the stone in. Finally, AC definitely contributes to better wraps! Thanks Susan. The annealing really helped with getting those wires to conform.
That and the AC keeping my head cool & not panicking This time of year, here anyway, it's a tool that really helps.
Cheers, Patty

I wonder if anyone has a guess on what kind of stone is in the wrap ? Of course no photos before tumbling or wrapping .
But I'd like to put some kind of name on it to gift or sell .
Any idea ?
I know that it is not translucent - so I would say Jasper ??
BUT it has a druzy opening - with clear crystals.
The photo is a pretty good representation of the color.
Thanks,
Patty

Great job on this, Patty liveoak! I can't help with the stone, but I like it. Is that a druzy vug?
I love the wrap. I would wear the back in front. Definitely a double sided wrap. Very nice!

That looks great. I agree with the others, both sides look good but I think I have a slight preference for the back. Nice job!

Thanks Tela.
Yup a druzy it has - I think it only showed after tumbling , as I don't remember it before.
But the back has the hidden details - which is something I particularly like
BTW- I had my fingers crossed that you were camping, where there was no internet - hope you work out the annoyances soon

I wish I were camping. I went to my sister's place for a few days. DH stayed home and did some honey do's while he was off. Our internet cable was taken out by a big truck, so that kept me away, too. Pretty hectic. Not nearly as cool as camping.

Not nearly as cool as camping. Sigh...... well I hope visiting was your sister was at least OK.
Tom says-- camping is always more fun than getting hit by a truck

Many years ago, my sister in law brought back some beachy things for me from one of her many Myrtle Beach vacations. I never got around to wrapping any, but there were a few wraps that I wanted to try on a shark tooth from her. So, I didn't find this myself, but someone else did and gave it to me. (You notice how similar this month's challenge and cab contest are?) I got out my Moods in Wire book and was prepared to do the big elaborate shark's tooth, but I had to settle for the one wire wrap on this small one. It's cute, though and was pretty easy to do. I'm leaving it raw copper, I think. Or, maybe I'll take the copper off and do it in silver instead.... not sure.
Don't mind my messy hands. LOL! Copper is dirty.

I like it Tela ! The one wire seems fitting, without over doing. Personally I like the copper, it has a complimentary tone to the tooth (which looks like an exceptional find, BTW). I'm imagining the back, on how the bottom wire connects up the center of the back to the top
The only sharks teeth we've ever found, are VERY tiny (magnifying needed) and maybe 40 gauge wire

Here's the back. It's essentially the classic one wire wrap. It's a little fidgety, but not hard to do.
I forgot- can't add pics to a reply. Pic follows....

The "crack" you may see is actually a healed fracture. It is petrified agate, after all. I thought it was glued, at first, but it isn't.

Thank you for showing the back Tela - It's how we (or me at least) learn a little bit (if I'm lucky). See, I never would have known about the half twist that likely tightened it up nicely

I like it too. It looks great with the copper color and the wrap looks like it's got a good hold on that tooth. 👌
