No way rockbrain that you can trash that, it's fabulous. The tentacles are great.
There's a fix in there- maybe a little un-weaving & splicing in - but what do you have to loose.
Go for it.
Thanks for the inspiration.
Patty.... going to look through her ammonite stash tonight.....

I think I'll start over. I need to figure a better way to attach the tentacles. Maybe I should end the weave there and make the tentacles out of the base wire ends and figure out a way to attach a jump wring for the bail.

I’m just catching up here. Really good idea rockbrain to start and end at the tentacles instead of the bail. 👍 I like it.

rockbrain, with a little bit of squinting, it turned out nicely. Bottom line is, you had some great ideas and if you wanted to put in the effort to redo it, you could do it perfectly. I like the way you did the little feelers or whatever they are called. And I like the extra wires going over the coiling wires to form a pattern. Some great design ideas there!

I like the border weave - creating the cradle to hold the ammonite. It's effective & interesting at the same time. The top ring was a perfect solution - bails are way over rated.
I was going to say I like the original simpler tentacles, but the new one is more realistic to an actual live (fossil) ammonite.
Very good inspiration here- thanks for not giving up on it.
I think it's a keeper.

Such a simple weave and I spent quite a bit of time on it...

Patty Thank you. The top ring was a better way to go. Unfortunately I was putting it in the wrong place the first time. I have some pliers, not sure what they're for, that will put that 1/2 round dent in the wire. I usually use them for nice even rounded prongs. I used them to make that space for the ring and somehow did it in completely the wrong place. I never could get the frame straightened out right after that. Creative genius rockbrain !! Don't know why I cant get this reply out of your quote box. Thanks, the idea was good, followed by a heavy handed, fat fingered execution!

I just love the design! The tentacles are perfect. I really like them and I don't think I've seen anyone else do that. I'm really glad you didn't give up and posted your results. It awesome!!

rockbrain - I've had that happen...where my reply gets trapped in the quote. When that happens, I switch over to BBCode view (tab at the bottom of the reply box), then put the cursor at the end of the quote, hit enter a couple times, then switch back to Preview mode. Then I can reply outside the quote.

UN-Fortunately rockbrain , we all see the flaws glaringly in our OWN creations. It's always like that. Fortunately, many times those flaws are NOT necessarily obvious to others .
My husband Tom has a saying- "Perfection is the enemy of good ! "
Tip to pass on.
I've been working on tumbled wraps of late - so odd shapes.
After I've done the initial layout on my wires - with a weave or border binding etc, I anneal it & pickle it.
Then it conforms wonderfully.
Just don't go crazy with the torch or you'll melt the small wires.
So with my copper, I'm going for dull red, not glowing.(easy it see in dim light)
Maybe it's not annealed all the way but it seems to work.
And knowing I can tumble polish it when I'm done, to harden it, it seems to be working.

Thanks for the tips Patty. I was actually thinking of heating it at some point but kind of forgot about it and wasn't really sure how to go about it.

Thanks for the tips Patty. I was actually thinking of heating it at some point but kind of forgot about it and wasn't really sure how to go about it. Here's a youtube that shows the annealing process .
I actually use an old cake pan filled with pumice as an annealing tray.
But a soldering block would work.
I wouldn't suggest charcoal as it will get the wire too hot too fast & you'll melt the wires.
