So I've been on the fence about joining in, as money is a bit tight around here lately, and truth be told I figured there would be more than enough experienced regular cabbers jumping aboard. But, it's the middle of the month & it's not looking like it .
So, I'm in as # 10 ( I think) - and I can finally stop torturing Tom about this.
I have one question about the material.
"Material Type: Plasma Agate from Clear Creek, CA which was chosen intentionally for being generally stable yet challenging to work with. Contestants can expect to encounter regions of the slab of varying MOHS hardness, matrix and vugs, and inability to take a great polish. Several of the slabs contain small areas of cinnabar as well as crystal druzy. "
So Tommy do the rules allow any stabilization ? It doesn't affect my entry either way- but I need to know.

Tommy has always wanted to run a grande contest like this. He's talked about for years. With the need to raise money for Ed, it made sense to do it now. I have to say, I'm a little disappointed in the numbers of people signing up. I mean, thank you, of course, to all who have- but seriously what's the hold up? No, I get it, I really do. I was on the fence, too. I just haven't been cabbing much lately. But, we do need more people to join up so..... I am going to offer a silver wrap (of their choice of stone) to the 1st place winner. Send me the stone- I'll wrap it and send it back. I'm challenging everyone else to throw in for the prize- first or second - or both. What do you have to offer to sweeten the pot?

My slab arrived last night! It is interesting stuff. Some very pretty colorations. And like Tommy said, it does look to be a challenging material, but also a lot of variations. The cabs could look very different depending on where people choose to work. The resulting collection of cabs to be auctioned off should be pretty cool.đź‘Ť

BTW, to all contestants so far - 15 of the 17 boxes I packed had an RTH vehicle grade sticker in them. If by very bad luck you don't get a sticker and you want one please let me know and I'll put you at the top of the list to get one when I have another round of printing done.

Yep...my slab showed up yesterday...got it out of the mailbox last night. Stared at it for awhile last night...then again this morning. I finally decided on where on the slab I'm taking the preform...I decided on the shape I'm going with...and I drew it out on the slab. Now I just need those elves to show up in the middle of the night and get this thing finished for me! LOL
