So Tommy do the rules allow any stabilization? It doesn't affect my entry either way- but I need to know. Thank you for doing this Tommy, I believe it couldn't be for a better cause. Thanks again for jumping in Patty and sorry for missing your question. It is a great cause and as Tela said in the other thread I've been wanting to do a mega contest for a long time and I've had these slabs sitting in kitty-litter for at least a couple of years, and I can't think of a more worthwhile cause than this. I do not have a problem with stabilization as long as it doesn't detract from the visual presentation in obvious ways. In other words to use an extremely unlikely example, if the cabochon contained a natural crustal druzy vug that was inadvertently filled with plastic, or a large vug in the middle of a high shine area was exhibiting an obvious flat non-gloss area, I would probably score these lower on the "presentation" aspect.

I completely understand what you're talking about.
Looking forward to the challenge of it all !

We got our slab the other day as well. I need to get my rump moving and work on a cab for this month's contest then figure out what to do with the plasma. First glance tells me it's going to be difficult indeed. Thank you Tommy for the challenge 🤘

Got my slab too. I agree with NDK. This one will be a bit challenging and I'm in no hurry to start whacking it up! Got a nice little druzy hole in the middle but then that's surrounded by a lot of brown which isn't as attractive and I think it's going to be soft.

The main contest post above has been updated as follows:
8/19 UPDATE - In order to achieve the absolute highest level of anonymity in the contest as possible, as contest cabochons are received they will be turned over to an independent 3rd party (my wife) for package opening and the assignment of a randomly generated number corresponding with the contestant which only she will know and have recorded. At the time of visual judging and photography I will absolutely not know whose cab I am handling. I'm not sure exactly what the public voting thread will look like but the assigned number will likely be used as a display order.

Dag nabbit, are you kidding me? lol I guess it has to happen to someone - or two someones eventually. I plan on having more made in the near future so you are at the top of the list for a free one. No I did not collect it but my brother Steve did It was a very large rock - too big for my 18" saw - and my brother abandoned it at our momma's house for many years so I kind of adopted it When she passed and we sold the house I could not stand to see it go so I brought it to Napa and broke it down into two large chunks for cutting.

So do we have an anonymous 12th contestant, that doesn't wish to be named ? Should we worry
