I'm sorry for the many posts today! I did a faux pas with one of my cabs - I'm a bit embarrassed by it, so please don't judge lol...Was dopping the below - excited to work on a piece with druzy, completely not even thinking that THIS was going to happen . I say I'm allowed one 'dumb moment' each year...this is it! Is there any hope? Anyone have suggestions for how i can get this out without damaging, or leaving green residue? TIA!

Freeze it. Pick it out with a thumb tack or something with a thin hard point

Pearl knotting tweezers helpful. Regular tweezers. Straight pin. Good luck!

What others suggested has worked for me. That one's not even filled up to bad, just don't use a lot of force removing the cab from the dop. I've started filling mine with clay now before dopping. That should be a nice looking cab!

Rubbing alcohol takes residue off the back of a cab- so maybe soaking it ? Patty
BTW- not a dumb moment at all - especially if we all learn form your mistake.
Now, if you keep doing it, well then that's another story

That should be a nice looking cab! Awesome! Good to know! I will be careful with it. Ahh - and I bet the clay just washes out? Thanks! I hope it turns out lol... That looks like a fairly large cab. I never dop unless down to about 18x13 or smaller cabs. I have hand held 18x13 cabs, not really hard, but easy on larger cabs. If you got the cabbing machine try hand holding for larger cabs, no dop, no mess. I don't know how well hand holding does on the slant cabber but on wheels it works just fine. I was taught hand holding when I started, to me it's a lot easier than using dop sticks unless it is a small cab.

Thank you! I think I'll try to freeze it out first (my dops fall right off and I'm hopeful this might work the same), but it that doesn't work, or it leaves residue then I'll try for sure. I really struggle with dexterity in my fingers so that's why I dop. So many times the wheel has taken the rock right out of my fingers and flung it across the room lol. I will try it when I get the cabbing machine though because I'd like to learn how to do it that way. Dopping is much messier

Your dilemma kind of made me chuckle. I wouldn’t have thought of that either. Everyone has good advice to fix it.
You’re smart to dop for several reasons. It protects your fingers, it gives you more control while cabbing and it supports the stone. Proper dopping can help prevent breakage of the cab while you’re working on it.
Nice preform!

Dopping is a good habit to get into. I do it with locktite. I use a little torch, butane mini guy, or just a lighter/candle. Since wax melts, this might work for you.

I honestly did a forehead slap when I realized...oh well. As mentioned before as long as I learn from this lol...I do prefer to dop, because I think it's easier to manage - but wouldn't mind trying without with the wheels... Thanks, Brent! Thank you!! i wondered about setting it back on the dopping machine, but worried that once it melted it would get further into grooves, etc...I've seen others use super glue too...thought that was interesting.

Acetone works as well. Just soak the tooth brush and soap for the residue. Ultrasonic is also helpful after the Acetone/Alcohol soak.

I will give this a shot if the freeze method doesn't get it all out. That is going to be an awesome cab, fingers crossed on the freeze technique. Thank you!! I hope so lol...it LOOKS like it'll be awesome, but I gotta get it there first lol... Don't you have kids in the house? The acetone soak will get it all out. Make sure you use a small jar with a lid and put the lid on. It will evaporate quickly if you don't (and it is flammable). Just let it soak for a day and then take it out and wash it good with soap and water.
The freezing and picking out the wax are good ideas, too, but you run the risk of popping druzy crystals out.

I didn't consider losing my crystals by freezing - thanks, Robin - good to know!
