The main reason I got a rebel 17 was to tumble petrified wood that we find. My step daughter reminded me of this when she returned home from summer vacation at her fathers yesterday. I don’t know what happened, I got distracted and threw jaspers, agates and other rocks in it for the last several months. Now it’s time to put those aside though. I filled the barrel up with the best of this pile of pet wood, threw in that one weird rock (probably not oolitic chert) that Hank and I have been wondering what it is, a handful of small Bots for seasoning, 10 tablespoons of 30 grit, and 8 of 60 grit SiC… cook on low for 3 to 6 months and we will see what happens.

Some pieces will look better partially tumbled while others will have to go a long time. I still have another 15 pounds left of sub 6” pieces to swap in as I go.

"Just set it & forget it!" LOL That looks like it could be a fantastic batch when finished!! Well, I’ll have to pop the lid, stir the soup and re-season every 10-14 days.

That Rebel 17 looks like an efficient machine for coarse grinding! Looks like a cool batch of stuff!

That Rebel 17 looks like an efficient machine for coarse grinding! Looks like a cool batch of stuff! It’s been really good. I got the 40 rpm moter rather then the 20rpm one so it really grinds them down. I do so many local rocks that need tons of course grinding so it helps.

After receiving my Richardson ranch order, I didn’t want to wait on getting some tumbling. Have I ever mentioned that I’m a little ADHD? So after I cleaned out the petrified wood I left a few of the good pieces and then proceeded to load it with several of the smoother black agate, a fist sized chunk of graveyard point, a bunch of rainbow agate and a chunk of serepe Jasper and a few rocks I found recently here local that I’m super curious about. I over loaded it with grit, 10tbs of 30 Sic and 8 heaping tbs of 60 SiC. Something strained badly again in my back/neck last week, or the previous issue just isn’t healing. I figure I’ll have to let it run for two weeks before I can pick it up again because today… it really sucked and was super painful. oh, of course I left the weird rock in there, which is looking fantastic and smoothing down much quicker than I imagined it would. I included a close-up pic because these features are so cool..

I’ll be integrating the pet wood back in as I do clean outs. All the rainbow agate will be pulled after 1 run and put in the 3lb barrels. A few others will be pulled also so I’ll have the pet wood all back in by October. I think. I still have the entire rock shed order to work on also. I feel smattered and need to get more organized. Eventually.

I love this Serepe Jasper and will get some more to break up and tumble for a ‘candy dish display’.

This is one of those colorful petrified wood pieces. Only a few of the many I find turn out like this. I’m keeping it running.

I pulled the graveyard point to think of what to do with it. Sure is a pretty rock… I’ve no idea what this is. I don’t remember putting in anything like it. I kept it going because I’m curious what it’ll turn into. Here’s that interesting eyeball rock I found in a pile of Texas river rock. I kept it rolling. It’s…different. Of course the weird rock will keep tumbling. Fred still has a few rough spots.
