Just saw an email from Cloudinary telling me I’ve reached my limit and their extension plans are pretty expensive. Is there any way around this or another way to post pictures? Or do I need to just go through and delete the old ones…? -Doug

Isn't the limit a monthly thing? I set it up like the tutorial said so they make the photo files smaller before posting them, plus I don't zoom in close with the macro shots, or even the scenery and whatnot. I crop them which cuts the file size considerably.

The only time I ever reached the 'bandwidth' limit was because of posting videos. At that time they threatened to boot the account if I didn't pay so I contacted then and explained the situation and they cut me slack and left the account alone. Since that point I carry several accounts just in case but after stopping doing vids I've had no further problems.

Thanks y’all! Basically what I did is I went back through and deleted any superfluous pictures. ashley, I haven’t tried ignoring it yet. So I’ll do just that and see what happens. Thanks!! Oh, I also was wondering if it’s a monthly thing. And I was thinking that it wasn’t because all the pictures you upload one month are still there in the next month. At least that’s the way my mind figured it.

I use Imgur; not sure if they have limits.

I use Flickr. I like it. Haven’t posted many photos lately.

One of the steps in the tutorial, and in setting up an account, is setting up the maximum photo size if I recall. Cloudinary will size them down to whatever was specified when it was set up. I believe in the tutorial Tommy suggested a size or size range. I noticed whem posting from my real camera, which is always set to maximum size (not ready to figure out raw yet) that I would get a message from them that it was too big, so now I just don't zoom all the way in on photos I plan to post or email, then I crop them later.

It is monthly. I always use a photo resizer to shrink my photos down from 2+ meg. I use FastStone Photo Resizer. It's free and it works a treat.

I always say that if I’m quick to bash on the company for doing something I feel is negative, I should unbash on them when the issue is corrected. Cloudinary sent me a nice email in response to my upset one. They gave me 20 extra credits. What I don’t understand is, if their monthly photo upload limit is for the amount of photos I post in each month and then it starts over the next month, or if it’s the amount of photos I post forever. Does anybody else know? I also asked them for fun. Anyway, I have a little bit longer before I figure things out. Or maybe I won’t have to, I don’t know. At least I don’t have to do it now. I don’t feel good now, I feel really sick, so this is good thing I don’t have to think for a bit. * the answer to this was kindly answered to me before I asked it again

OK, you answered the question that I’m foolishly pondering. Thank you. I guess I could also just adjust my cell phone and take lower resolution pictures of rocks. I’ll try your fast photo resize though first, but I’m awful at these things. I will try though. Thank you very much hummingbird!

All, I highly recommend two things for everyone using Cloudinary here on the forum in regards to extending the life of your free account. 1. Don't use it for videos. When you post a video on the forum it potentially will be played thousands(?) of times and this puts a huge hit on your "free" bandwidth. 2. Make good use of Cloudinary's "Incoming Transformations" feature. This feature automatically reduces your uploaded photos down to the size you specify. You can upload massive photos to them and they are automatically transformed down to your preference for displaying on the internet - thus saving both storage space AND viewing bandwidth. For instance, I have the "new-member" free account set as follows with an incoming transformation width of 600 pixels using "scale" which means it will automatically determine the photo height. I haven't figured out how to manage the RTH new-member account to disallow videos but I wish I could. For now that has to be self-policed.

Tommy I think that even with the incoming transformations there is a size limit on what it can reduce, pretty sure I have got a "too big" message from them before. I could be confusing this with something else though, I'll test the theory tomorrow.

I could be confusing this with something else though, I'll test the theory tomorrow. That's entirely possible Lee and I've never tested the upper limit of what the uploader widget can handle. I typically upload 3:4 photos straight from my Galaxy phone and my personal setting is a transformation down to 800px wide and that keeps me out of trouble with overages.

The only issue I've had with "size limit reached" was when I tried to upload a video which was apparently too long...thus the file size was too large.
