There are some very cool rocks in that batch. Most of those came from The Rock Shed. Being tired of tumbling the quartz and gravel that I have available around here, I bought 1 lb bags of various jaspers and agates to see what I might like to buy more of in the future. I found out why people like Mexican Crazy Lace agates and moss agates :-)

Wow that light box really shows some nice detail in the stones - impressive pics! That is a really nice batch of rocks as well! That crazy lace has some very rich color to it! Botswana agates are really nice/fun to tumble as well - they do take a long time in coarse grind though in my experience.

Son Of BeachYes, it does not take long to construct one if you have the materials on hand. I took a little different approach with the light sources. I am an electrician and have access to canless LED wafer lights, so I used a couple of those.

Adam, the tumbles look great...and the pictures are fantastic! Way to go on both!! Thanks jason! I feel like I am getting decent at tumbling the easy stuff. And the light box is a big improvement over the shed lights when it comes to photos. I just need to figure out how to work around a flaw or quirk with the way my phone focuses.

Thanks! I credit the UV mini bowl and the fact I only vibe with 500 AO and AO polish now. The rocks are now better prepared for going into the vibratory tumbler. And the mini bowl has better action than the RayTech bowls. I have to leave it unattended for 12 to 24 hours at times, and I constantly had to contend with a cemented mess when checking on the tumbler. But not now.

Wow do you mean you use a UV mini bowl on a RayTech vibe? Asking since you mentioned both.

Wow do you mean you use a UV mini bowl on a RayTech vibe? Asking since you mentioned both. Yes! It works great on the RayTech TV-5 base. I do have to fill it to 90% with rock and ceramic and add a tablespoon of borax to slow down the movement. And the the bowl will spin if you rely on just the rubber well nut to hold it in place. But it is less temperamental in regards to water than the RayTech bowl. When I get my other TV-5 base working again, I will think very hard about spending the money (it was $55, but now it is $65) to get another mini bowl.

I remembered somebody mentioning using a UV bowl on RayTech but couldn't find the original thread. Can you explain what extra step you need to do to mount the UV mini bowl? How to avoid the bowl from spinning? Is the noise greatly improved upon using the UV bowl instead? Thanks!
