Yes! It works great on the RayTech TV-5 base. I do have to fill it to 90% with rock and ceramic and add a tablespoon of borax to slow down the movement. And the the bowl will spin if you rely on just the rubber well nut to hold it in place. But it is less temperamental in regards to water than the RayTech bowl. When I get my other TV-5 base working again, I will think very hard about spending the money (it was $55, but now it is $65) to get another mini bowl. I am very interested in this solution! I remembered somebody mentioning using a UV bowl on RayTech but couldn't find the original thread. Can you explain what extra step you need to do to mount the UV mini bowl? How to avoid the bowl from spinning? Is the noise greatly improved upon using the UV bowl instead? Thanks! There are no extra steps needed to mount the mini bowl. After the lid has tightened down with the wing nut the bowl does not rotate. If I run it with the lid off, such as when I am adding (pre)polish, I sometimes have to use one hand to keep it from rotating. As for the noise, it is quieter. More of the vibration of the base is converted into toroidal circulation with the mini bowl due to its better shape. And since there is better circulation, the bowl can be filled more.

Now the UV mini bowl is on my shopping list. You also mentioned doing 120/220 in the rotary. Do you do 120/220 in your high speed Rebel 17, or in another slower rotary?

I have been using 220 lately in all my rotary tumblers, which consist of the hi-speed Rebel, a dual 6# Lortone, and two dual 3# Chicago Electrics. I don't know yet if tumbling with 220 is better, worse, or the same as using 46/70 or 60/90 in the larger barrels yet, but it is an improvement in the 3# barrels for me. And I think 120/220 will work as well as straight 220.

adam5 - One of the things I do with my phone camera is: I zoom into 1.8...so not very much. Then one trick I was told about a long time ago is to put the camera up close - it'll be out of focus - then slowly pull the camera away from the rock. Once it focuses on the rock, I pull it back a little bit further (VERY slightly) and take a couple pictures as I'm pulling back. It usually gets a great pic out of one of those shots. Yes! I didn't have to do anything to the base to modify it for the UV bowl. There's a nut that will hold the bowl onto the shaft. I think the noise is less...and the action is better I feel.

No Way! Don't lose the gnarly finger shots! LOL - It's even better when we see an odd bare foot every once in awhile! LOL

It’s best to keep socks on when handling a camera. Another great looking pile of shiny rocks adam5. I wish we had local rocks that tumbled like that.

Great job on the Feldspar! Where I hound out here, I find a ton of Feldspar...but never pick any up. You're making me rethink my leaving it out there!

Your local finds are really shiny. I have ordered a UV mini bowl from rock shed - I feel I am losing one more excuse if I can't achieve the same level of shine on the granite I collected as you did

Thanks jason There is much for me to hound locally except for quartz and quartzite. So I look at a lot of driveway. In my own driveway I noticed a decent amount of granite that was mostly feldspar. So, I have been picking some of it up while outside with my grandson.

Which is better, the photos or the rocks?
Am I too greedy to say both? Because those rocks are stunning!
